The following quote is from another board, and my history is not that great so I’m not sure how to respond to this:

Atrocities by Catholics against Protestants (and vice versa) in Europe did happen, and some of that may have driven immigration to North America. The Huguenots are an example. But I don’t think such persecution was the basis of founding any colonies.

Note: many of those atrocities occurred before any colonies existed in North America.
