Nothing was said last Sunday at mass. And before you think, “Oh how could you NOT know this?” please know that I am a new Catholic. I had NO IDEA - until a Protestant friend asked me… and now it’s snowing like mad out - roads are a mess and I don’t even know if I’ve missed the last mass… yikes!

Yes it is. Don;t feel bad, I’m missing mass today, too. My hisband didn’t have the consideration to leave work before 6:37, even though I asked him to make it home for mass. He was just playing with a friend, they could have wrapped it up earlier. I would have walked to mass, but it’s dark and bitterly cold.

Yup. It’s a holy day of obligation. Putting yourself at risk is not required. I would mention to your pastor that since you are a new Catholic, you were unaware of the obligation, and since no mention was made in Church, it caused you to fail in your responsibility – which, as anyone can plainly see, has been quite distressing to you. Sure, every lifelong Catholic might know this, but we have to remember that people like you need the extra boost of an announcement.

How unfortunate.

But don’t sweat it. When you come to confession, mention that you didn’t know . . .

It’s snowing, you didn’t know.
Turn on EWTN and watch the Mass. It’s beautiful.
If you did miss the last mass it was not intentional. Say a good Act of Contrition.
I can’t tell you how often I missed the Holy Days in my life because I was a day off!

Thanks for your posts… as it turns out I found the bulletin and sure enough… there was a very large announcement - reminding us all about today. Also, I remembered that right after communion on Sunday I had to take my 3 yr. old potty so I MISSED the announcements - mass was over when he was done. So they probably DID make an announcement. :o

But all is well because the last mass for the day is in 30 minutes so I can brave the elements & go.

Blessings!

Drive safely. We just came back from Mass and it’s snowing about an inch an hour. My snow blower is ready!
