Is today's music really THAT bad?

My students don’t know who the Beatles are. They don’t think they are cool.
Who are these students? What other kinds of neglect have these poor children suffered?

I will make both my stereo and mono sets of their work available to a child in need. 🙂

Well…I guess the Beatles are o.k. They were done a couple years before my time. I’ve never been a huge fan. Pleasant, but not one of my favorites.

A group I always liked but never personally owned any music from.
Anyone remember China Crisis?

No, it’s not a generational thing. Fer cryin’ out loud. Roy Orbison is great.

That old argument. Hate to break it to you but the old blues players stole much of their music from someone else, too. Besides, Zeppelin had enough original music to still be the best ever. So, nana, nana, boo-boo😛

That’s great. She sounds like a fine doc; she probably has the ICD-10 codes memorized.

It’s not a generational thing. It is only an illusion. I’ve been watching who and what has been filling the airwaves. It’s either bad or very bad. Except for most Christian music.

Whoa, I saw your post had been flagged and I thought you really ripped into my post which I meant to be playful. Then I saw that your only “faux pas” was using the name D*ck. Sorry about that and thanks for the background info.

That very common name probably causes more auto flags than anything else. I’ve taken to using Duck as a replacenent.

Like the Duck Van Dork Show

I had no idea why that post was flagged until now! It happened right after I posted it, and I was like “wha?” I could not see why anyone would have flagged it. Now I get it.

You should really check out that Bobby Parker tune and remember that it was released in 1961. The guitar riff is way ahead of it’s time.

I wouldn’t even say it is that hard anymore. The Internet makes it pretty easy to find stuff you’re into, and plenty of genres of music and bands have dedicated communities online.
Right. I haven’t relied on the radio to find new music to listen to since 1993. And that’s more or less when my familiarity with popular music ends. 😝

But I’ve always found plenty of stuff to listen to.

I can somewhat see the point, though, that popular music (as with many popular things) has taken a downward slide over the years. I’m not familiar enough with what’s popular these days, to say for sure.

I rarely hear current pop music except at the gym, where they play it over the PA system in the locker room, but based on that it sounds very basic and impoverished with what came before: both musically and lyrically. I was there a few days ago and one song had the lyrics ‘I love my friends, I love my friends …’ over and over again. Oftentimes the music I hear there sounds like it was purposefully made to be as unremarkable and dumbed-down as possible. We’ve come a long way from Cole Porter and George Gershwin (or even Elvis Costello), that’s for sure.

I’m not sure when exactly this happened or why, but my guitar teacher has also commented on it.

He’s just not my style. You wouldn’t be in your 60’s by any chance? My dad is 67. Love my dad, but not his music.

Perhaps some of my disdain is because I was a pouty kid who didn’t get to listen to her music.
