I have read this twice and still can’t make any sense of what is being said. The “Law” being diwcussed in thei bit of Scripture has nothing to do with the Civil Law, but refers to the Mosiac Law of the Torah. Where is the connection between that and not trusting the government. I am confused.
We of course define a DIVINE LAW, the natural law, and the civil law. The world defines laws which are contrary to DIVINE law, and even natural law, such as abortion. Saint Paul here is clearly speaking of Civil Law . … and outlines the DIVINE LAW which is LOVE in the HOLY SPIRIT and those things which we GOD writes in our hearts. The Mosaic Law is not the CHRISTian law, though we still keep the ten commandments as they define on concrete terms the LAW OF LOVE. The Mosaic Law can’t be kept in whole, such as the Mosaic Marriage law. The Ten Commandments were meant to be the Mosaic Law, but because of the hardness of men’s hearts, Moses relaxed the law, but JESUS shall rule with a rod of iron (an unbending measure of law).

The only law we adhere to is LOVE. First and foremostly the LOVE OF GOD so we do those things CHRIST commanded of us, as sheep of HIS flock. And in the image of this first commandment and to keep this first and greatest commandment we LOVE our NEIGHBOR, that we should care for them as for ourselves, wanting the best for them means wanting their salvation in keeping the first commandment LOVE THE LORD THY GOD, WITH ALL THY HEART, ALL THY MIND, ALL THY SOUL, AND ALL THY MIGHT. And so too LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF. That is the complete CHRISTian law, which if we keep this law, in the confession of CHRIST OUR LORD that we say we are part of this covenant without ignorance of it, we shall LIVE the abuandant LIFE which we are promised.

GOD makes covenants, which if we keep the covenant we inherit the promises there of for our obedience. Such as “do not eat of the tree of KNOWLEDGE else you die,” of course meaning do this and you shall LIVE . … Where as the laws of men are made for society, in a free world, or a dictator if they are not so free. If you break the law there is usually some harsh penalty, even if you confess to the crime. If you committ a crime under GOD’s law you are forgiven as you forgive for confessing the sin in repetenance. In some free countries you have a more just judicial system that might allow for some forgiveness for repenting, showing remorse for one’s crimes.

The law of CHRIST is simple if you LOVE one another as you would wish to be LOVED, in the confession that CHRIST IS LORD, doing that which we must to inherit the KINGDOM, you shall LIVE. That is a simple covenant which means LIFE IS LOVE. and LOVE IS LIFE. And that is the law of CHRIST. and CHRIST offers mercy to the merciful. The laws of men rarely offer much mercy even in confession of one’s crimes. With all fairness GOD knows the hearts of men, where as human judges usually (unless charismatic) cannot see the hearts of other men, but judge based on empircal evidence, which can deceive. Therefore innocent men may be convicted of crimes under the laws of men. And we see with laws as abortion even murder can be justified under the laws of men.

Do not be of the world who are deceived by mammon and the devil.
Do not be of the flesh which is full of perverse lusts, and unGODly desires.
Be of the SPIRIT which wants only goodness and LOVE.

Well, I just turned 21, and I’ve had the occasional underage drink. I’m also one of the youngest (June 30th birthday, worst day of the year in my opinion lol) and of course I just wanted to be able to drink with my friends who were all 21. I was definitely breaking civil laws, and could have gotten into trouble had I been caught. Needless to say, I never drank that much…good thing I was never a party person. Actually, the first time I got drunk since turning 21 was last weekend because I knew I wouldn’t be driving.

If you’re going to drink, just be careful. And ask yourself, is it worth the risks of getting caught and having to suffer the consequences, or even worse, hurting somebody else as a result? Also, if you’re going to drink, DON’T drive!

Sounds like you treat getting drunk as being just a little thing if you’re at last of age and don’t drive under the influence. Intentionaly getting drunk is a grave sin man! It is also a real pain for everyone in you’re life if you become a frequent drunk or alcoholic. Not only is it sinful. It is stupid. 😦

This post has some overtones of the old Separatist teaching of Roger Williams who founded Providence, Rhode Island. Are you really saying that Civil Law should be ignored by Christians?
