Is Vatican II really to blame for a crisis in Catholicism?

I’ve noticed that several posters appear to blame Vatican II for the decline in numbers of practicing Catholics worldwide. Others, however, blame the lack of rigor in Catholic teaching. Still others point to a link between Vatican II and the lack of proper catechesis. What is your view of the situation? Is there a crisis? If so, who, if anyone, in or outside the Catholic community, is to blame?

While it is certainly a complex subject, on the whole I would have to say no. It was, in fact, a response to a crisis.
