Is it a sin to buy underwear/perfume/lotions from Victoria’s Secret? They try to make all their products very “sexy” and represent sex appeal. Is that wrong?

I think it all depends on the intent. If you like that stuff and it makes you happy, Im sure its fine unless it goes too far. If you want to dress up for your husband, then thats great too as long it doesnt cause him to objectify you.

There’s nothing wrong with doing a little extra to get the hubby going.
I would guess it would be hard to objectify someone you know as well as your wife, so I think you’ll be fine there.

If they’re used within the context of marriage, no problemo.
However…
That being said, methinks their advertising is the stuff that young boy’s fantasies are made, and as such, certainly raise the moral eyebrow.
I don’t go to the mall much, but I’d prefer not to be assaulted with oversized pix of nearly naked, siliconized models as I walk about through the mall.

IMO some of the advertising they do (both on TV and in store) is sinful as it most certainly causes people to lust. I’m not sure on whose shoulders the sin would fall as it is clearly a corporate decision on how they advertise.
Is it sinful to buy their product? I am not 100% sure. Personally I don’t think so because if all Catholics refused to buy anything from all but the most “sinless” companies we would have very few options. My wife buys some things from VS and wears them for me which we both enjoy very much.
The lotions and stuff is very nice and great quality (though not quite as good as bed and body works products) and I don’t see how those things could be sinful. At least in the mall which I go to the lotions/perfumes, ect has is on a different floor as the “sexy” stuff so there is even less issue with buying it.

I agree with that. It’s not much of a “secret”, eh? I don’t think there is anything wrong with “Victoria’s” per se, but I do not like the giant posters at the mall. My kids don’t need to see that. Everyone knows what they sell there, why not leave a little to the imigination?

Victoria’s Secret catalogues are pornographic and incite lust in the viewer–there can be no doubt about that. Since pornography addiction is a rampant problem in our society, I would conclude that these catalogues do create an occasion for sin and contribute to the enslavement of many, especially young men who have not yet grown in self-control. In my opinion, VS is one small part of a very evil multi-billion dollar pornography industry which is devastating men, women, and families. Steer clear of the whole mess.

I dont really dont think of it as evil. But it depends on the intent of the person. Remember that those magizines can be used as an object of lust. But in the overall sense no it really isn’t ‘evil’

Yeah, I’ve heard the ad slogans for this and similar businesses: “Surprise your husband. Add a little spice to your love life. It’s OK to be a little naughty with the man you love.”
That eventually morphed into Madonna wearing various undergarments on the outside as time passed. And underwear eventually morphed into a tiny piece of cloth with some string.
If you want underwear, then buy underwear. Don’t let a middle man, or woman, come between you and your husband. According to the American Decency Association:
“Victoria’s Secret sells lingerie in an inappropriate and immoral manner and therefore contributes to the sexual objectification of women and the desensitization of moral sensibilities.”
My point is, if you see something often enough, especially in public, it becomes part of the scenery and becomes unexamined. Victoria’s Secret is a threat to right thinking and morals.

The mission statement of both our stores is to provide women with clothing and fragraces to enable her to feel pampered and sexy. It’s nothing to do with demoralizing women at all, but all to do with providing her with some comforts and pampering for those times when life gets hard and you can’t afford a $300 trip to the spa.

Haha. I think that we can all agree that men are very visual creatures. I think any man can be aroused from seeing his wife in sexy lingerie. Most people who have responded to me so far seem to think there’s nothing wrong with that. I want to make sure it’s ok before I do it.

Or are you saying I should boycott VS specifically because of the presentation of the items they’re selling, but it’s ok to buy that same stuff somewhere else? With all due respect, no one needs to spend $300 at a spa. Around my area, one spa has the name Pure NV.I actually work for a company that is owned by the same people who own Victoria’s Secret.
