Is viewing non-NSFW pictures for sexual pleasure, w/o masturbation, a sin?

This doesn’t pertain to me and I have no plans on doing it, however I have been reading on Catholic Moral Theology recently and haven’t found any sort of answer to this yet.

According to Church Teaching, is it a sin to view pictures/videos that do not contain nudity or sex for sexual pleasure so long as you don’t masturbate? To me it seems like a major loophole or weak point in Church teaching, but manipulating the system seems not to be a sin either, which is why I’d like to know about it for future reference (when helping both others and myself).

Such is grave matter for mortal sin. No loophole. Falls under Lust (see CCC)…

Not sure what he meant, but I have a question too:

Is it a sin to look at pictures of people you’re attracted to if you don’t masturbate? It seems ridiculous for it to be sinful to want to look at a picture of my girlfriend or something, but I have to ask

SUCH does NOT matter…to do ANYTHING for the purpose of sexual pleasure (outside of the rightful exercise in marriage with ones spouse) is grave matter.

If one is looking “for sexual pleasure”-- yes.

But do not confuse attraction to your girlfriend per se for “sexual pleasure” in lust.

I’m guessing he did. The thread’s about non-NSFW pictures, in other words, safe for work stuff.

OP, a common, though wrong, theme around here is that sin is inherent in certain inanimate things. Sin is in the mind. “I confess . . . that I have sinned through my own fault: in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do.”

The sin here is in deriving sexual pleasure outside of the proper channels.

An artist could study NSFW pictures for his craft and not commit a sin, just as someone could “study” work-safe pictures and commit grave ones.

You’re placing yourself into an unchaste mindset and view of humanity. It’s also a near occasion of sin. Using another person for your sexual gratification.
 
Always an odd thing, the nudity in the Sistine Chapel. I remember an age when I had to convince myself that those paintings weren’t sexual.
