Is visiting a mosque wrong?

It appears you didnt really read or understand the intial post of mine that you replied to.

I visited Buddhist temples in Thailand as a tourist due to cultural interest. I took off my shoes. I don’t believe what they do, but I respect their beliefs and will obey their rules when visiting their sacred spaces. I don’t think that was wrong, maybe others would disagree.

I would never pray in a Buddhist temple - I might in a mosque.

I have provided proof that it’s acceptable not required to pRay in mosques since the last 3 popes have done so. There’s nothing in the bible that forbades praying in locations other then a church, there is also noting in the catechism that says you cannot either. I have provided evidence, as the bible cannot forbade it and Jesus prayed in temples and mosque did not exist for 600 years. After the bible was written. And that the popes have prayed with Muslims in mosques. You have not provided evidence other thenight saying it’s “NO GO”. I maybe wrong, I don’t have a memory of the full catechism. I’m just asking for evidence that shows the Pope broke catechism.

I don’t feel I’m questioning the Church, I’m asking to be shown how this is the teaching of the church, since what the poster is saying is that you can’t pray in mosques when the last three popes have done it. It’s not in the bible saying you can’t since mosques didn’t come into existence for more than 600 years after the Bible. I’m asking to provide evidence, which he is lacking and making empty claims. My evidence is that three consecutive popes have prayed in mosques. His is so far baseless claims. I just want his reasoning backed up. I’m not questioning the Church, I’m asking for where the Chruch says it.
Hi!

…actually, the Bible was Canonized in the four hundreds so the time lapse would be more like two hundred years (first mosque 622/638).

…I doubt the OP would be welcomed to pronounce the Name of Jesus as a prayer circle thing… those Popes that have been cited as taking part in interfaith activities have had to present a very “cleansed” prayer… after all, one would not want to injure the “sensibilities” of others, would one?

Hi!

…there could be a technicality here… I’m not versed in the CCC… but do you truly believe that God welcomes all sorts from anywhere?

…Jesus stated that God is Spirit and that true Worshipers must Worship in Spirit and Truth… does rejection of Christ as Divine count for or against Catholic prayer in other places? Is rejection of the Holy Spirit as part of the Holy Trinity ok when Catholics pray with those who reject the Holy Trinity?

It is an error to believe that what the Pope does for peaceful coexistence with the various faith groups is a practice that should be emulated by the rank and file Catholic.

…since you threw Jesus into the mix… did Jesus go around joining different and diverse groups for common Worship sessions?

I’m not saying that it is the same for Muslims and Christians, I’m saying there is nothing forbaying praying or being inside a mosque. Popes have done it themselves. I’m not saying that the faith of Muslims and Christians are the same. I never even once said or implied that the religions are the same, this whole argument is that it is okay to pray to God inside of a mosque. It’s not like God would get faiths confused because the building would change which God you’re praying to.

When a person starts a post with “I’d have no qualms” like i did in the initial post, hard to deduce just how you came to such a strange conclusion that i was speaking definitively for all of Catholicism. Obviously posting my personal position on it.

Maybe the Pope has some special ability to reach Muslims that i do not have. And good for him if so. As for me, NO GO… Id pray in another Christian Church other than the Catholic church. But that’s as far as I’d go.

I am a Catholic but I visited a mosque to get to know about Islamic religion and culture. I had to wear their clothes to be allowed to enter the temple. Is that wrong?
Wearing their clothes, if you are male means long shirts and pants?

Here is my take.

The House of God is the Catholic Church, be it St Peter’s Basilica , or a patch of ground in an undeveloped region, used weekly for Mass.

Anywhere else is just a building. Bricks and mortar. We can pray our prayers anywhere we want, and we should.

A bunch of people praying to their gods , is all it is. Its like words going nowhere. Pray for them, for their conversion.

The real danger here is the good old devil tempting you to belief in their system, or doubt in your Church.

A leopard never changes it’s spots. You just deflect, dodge, and ignore every valid point I make. I see your intent on making insults and being belligerent to every one who disagrees with you… you were so eager to damn me for saying there is nothing against Church teaching about praying in a mosque. However when you realized I was correct you changed your arguement into trying to make me look like a jerk. So I’ll Ask you a direct question and we all watch you dodge and deflect. Is it against Church teaching to pray in a mosque? And if so where Is that authority cited? Please do not dodge those questions and resort to insults and personal condemnations.

With the greatest respect

Hahaha you get all nasty then end the post with the " greatest respect" unbelievable.:rotfl:

The Church hasn’t made any official ruling on the issue.

Doesnt change the fact you continue to mischaracterize people’s positions. You did the same thing in the locked thread a few days ago.

Then why on earth were you making such a childish fuss earlier about how it’s wrong to visit a mosque. Im glad to know I was right the entire time. I never distorted your arguement you silly child, your the one who immediately condemned and accused me of saying it was required to pray in a mosque when I never said so. Grow up Lenten_ashes, stop acting like God, with this constant damning.

Reported for uncharitable name calling. It’s one thing to have a disagreement with people, but there’s no need to get nasty about it, whether you’re right or not.

It’s not appropriate for him to be uncharitable simply because he dislikes the notion of praying in mosques. Just because he’s catholic and gives the company line about how terrible Muslims doesn’t mean he can be uncharitable. You prove how divided this forum is. I say one positive thing about Muslims and you throw a tantrum and cry to the moderators.

I didn’t report “positive comments about Muslims.” I didn’t throw a tantrum or cry to anyone. Characterizing what I did in that way simply validates my report further.

Well you did go cry to the moderators immediately after I said something good about Muslims… suspicious. I just reported your comments for denigrating a religion. And if you were honestly concerned about charitable remarks you would have retorted Lenten_ashes. But alas, he has negative things to say about Muslims, so you conveniently overlook his uncharitable remarks.

With respect,
