I must be the only Catholic in the world that watches these.images.bravenet.com/common/images/smilies/sarcastic.gifimages.bravenet.com/common/images/smilies/guilty.gif

I’m starting to get a gut intuition that’s telling me, “You’re sinning by watching the secular Olympic games in Turin
images.bravenet.com/common/images/smilies/3_oh.gif

when you should be praying and reading Scripture!”

Look, I’ve watched these games since I was little and have enjoyed them images.bravenet.com/common/images/smilies/28_spin.gif. What’s so wrong watching them?images.bravenet.com/common/images/smilies/stickjumpgirl.gif

Hey, I prayed the Rosary and all that…so can I watch 'em?images.bravenet.com/common/images/smilies/10_confused.gif

And NO, I’m not being scrupulous…just a question. images.bravenet.com/common/images/smilies/wave.gifhttp://javascript: void(0);

What sin do you think you might be committing by watching the Olympics?

What SHOULD you be doing with the time you’re spending on the Olympics? Are you neglecting other responsibilities?

Why would watching the Olympics be any different from any other form of diversion or entertainment?

Give us a break. How could watching the Olympics be a sin? That’s just nonsense.

there is no conflict between one’s spiritual duties and the ordinary actions of daily life, because there is no barrier or separation between them. Scripture reading and prayer, Mass and the sacraments are the foundation of our lives, not their only content. There is absolutely nothing wrong with watching the olympics or any other form of recreation as longs as they do not interfere with the duties of daily life, both the wordly and spiritual duties. We are not supposed to spend every waking moment in actual conscious prayer, but to make our prayer the foundation on which all the other activity rests. could you please give some consideration to an ordinary type font in an ordinary size and color, this is very hard to read.

Wherever did you get that idea? Do you hang around with a lot of evangelical protestants? I’m wondering because the whole idea that anything fun must be a sin seems to be one evangelicals, rather than Catholics, are prone to. It’s sort of a puritanical notion. “All things in moderation” is more Catholic.

*Well, then I must be Protestant than:rolleyes:…NOT!

For goodness sake people, sorry I even brought it up! I didn’t know and since I’m NO EXPERT on moral stuff, I didn’t know! You guys act like I’m some http://www.websmileys.com/sm/aliens/alien_greetings.gif and don’t know what the heck I’m asking or talking about. That’s fine too.*http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/sehrgrosse/large-smiley-043.gif

Sorry, I didn’t mean to insult you. I wasn’t calling you a protestant! I just wondered if you had gotten this idea from protestants, in which case I was only trying to say “don’t worry about everything fun being a sin, that’s just a protestant error and as a Catholic you don’t need to feel guilty about having fun!” sorry if I didn’t express myself very well.

Watching the Olympics is fine so long as you don’t get an emotional charge by watching the skimpy outfits that the female ice skaters wear. 😃

No, its not a mortal sin. That is unless you watch it too much and neglect other things.

If you are getting a bad feeling (like you should be doing something else), i think God is calling you either to the next level in your spiritual life and/or He wants you not to watch them as a little sacrifice for Him.

Remember, the closer we draw to God, the more we recognise our imperfections.

Certainly, watching tv is an unnecessary part of life.

We would do well to cut it out completely.

In Christ.

Andre.

I’m watching them myself - though I admit that possibly I could be doing other things with that time I think the inspirational examples of courage and sportsmanship are great - see all those girls crashing out in the luge and just getting back up and getting on with it!

St Paul compared living a Christian life to running a race, so he was obviously a keen sports fan himself! And I think it’s a good analogy. I do try to do other things (housework, work at the computer etc) rather than JUST sit and watch - this way I’m not seriously neglecting anything.

Perhaps, given the present terrible epidemic of obesity in the western world, we should start exercising during the commercials as well!

Have you called your Parish yet about continuing your Catholic Ed past RCIA? Remember, confirmation is not graduation - you should be involved with your Parish learning about the faith - they would help you with these struggles!

No I should. Thanks.

I should give 'em a call or something. Heck, I haven’t talked with my sponsor since the day I got confirmed!

I fully agree with this post. And Paris Blues, I think it was a good question that you asked. Thank you for asking it.

your perfectly right, everything that is unneccessary in life should be cut out completely.

Dare I respond?

If you seriously have this conviction, then buckle down.

If you seriously have this conviction, consider the Carmelite order.

I think at one point you considered the sisterhood. If these are the kinds of convictions you face and you do not think you are being scrupulous, then I recommend you consider a Carmelite retreat.
