I really enjoy watching The Office, but I realize that it has some elements in it that are somewhat crude. Recently, I’ve started to watch Parks and Recreations because it was on my recommendations on Netflix. My question is, is it okay to watch these shows?

As long as you’re mature enough to remember it’s just a tv show and not a model for behavior, it’s fine (although really, the office and parks and rec are pretty tame anyway)

Of course, there are some programs on TV that feature people without clothing. “Naked and Afraid” is one, and I read that another entitled “Naked Dating” is in the works. How about these? Personally, I think they are silly and stupid, but would others find them morally objectionable.🤔
And then, there is the Jerry Springer Program.

Its all some people entertaining other people.
Can imbibing any of this stuff make you a better person ??
Maybe there’z better to be done, IMO

So do you guys think I have to confess that I watch them or not ?

I know, sometimes I just feel like I’m just trying to get out of confessing so I just want to double check.

It’s dumb humor, but I doubt anything to confess.

On that note though guys! And I don’t want to take over your thread Catherine, how bad is it to watch Family Guy? I don’t watch it anymore, but my brother still does. I recently had an argument with him, and I told him it wasn’t okay to watch.

I know the feeling. Believe me, I know. I have been diagnosed OCD and I even regularly doubt whether I was diagnosed correctly and If I am just using it as a excuse sometimes even though my suffering was real.

Do you have any monasteries close by to you? I got a spiritual director by sending a letter to one close to me and explaining my situation and asking if they had any priest that is competent with dealing with scrupulosity that could take me on as a spiritual directee. I forgot if you have a spiritual director or not but in case you do not I just wanted to share what worked for me. If you get a spiritual director he can assess what will help you. Mine use to let me tell him every sin that I was scared was mortal and I use to rattle of lists of 20 or so sins and I was always surprised when he told me that nothing I mentioned was even grave matter. So after doing this a few times my scrupulosity began to ease up. That may not be the best thing for you but your director should be able to tailor a plan that will help you out.

I have OCD too, and I always feel like I’m making it all up to get away easy too. I don’t think we have a monastery near by, but I know we have a few convents. There’s a Carmelite convent about an hour from here. Would that work?

You can try. Maybe there is a great Nun or sister who can help you. My director was a priest and it was great because I was able to confess to him. Obviously You cannot confess to a person who is not a priest so I do not have any experience in how working with a non priest could help out. You definitely need a regular confessor who understands your situation. But maybe you can contact one of the convents and maybe they can direct you to the closest Carmelite monastery. Or you can look it up. It was a Carmelite priest who helped me. I use to have to travel 50 miles to see him but it was worth it.

GREAT! Do not give up if you do not get help the first time. The first place I contacted never replied back to me. I sent a email and never got a reply back. So I sent a letter to the second place and got a answer within a week. Do not give up. You definitely need a spiritual director AND regular confessor if you are going to get some relief.

I hope I can find help soon. Thank you for the encouragement, I will try until I find help,
