Don’t like it? Don’t watch it.

Sin? Naaah.

John
Well I guess we must revisit our Catechism and see what sin is:

[1849](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/1849.htm’)😉 Sin is an offense against reason, truth, and right conscience; it is failure in genuine love for God and neighbor caused by a perverse attachment to certain goods. It wounds the nature of man and injures human solidarity. It has been defined as "an utterance, a deed, or a desire contrary to the eternal law."121

No, this doesn’t prove anything. Remember, the Church says the “homosexual act” is the sin, not just saying your homosexual. As far as I know, there have been no homosexual “sexual” acts on this show.

Watching a show with a couple of gay characters, who are not performing any gay sexual acts, is not a sin. Just like watching “Ellen” is not a sin.

Buff, you need to lighten up a little bit.

You have got to be kidding. Will and Grace does not try to normalize homosexuality?

It’s JUST a tv show. Why get so uptight?
Because the external comes from the internal. Take a glass of water. Add a drop of sewage. Will you drink it?

So it is with us. If we eat a steady diet of garbage, it definitely affects our exterior. When we start justifying our actions with it’s just a show, or it’s just this and that, we allow this to proliferate.

will and grace

Ask yourself this question–is there something better that I could be doing right now?

If not, watch Will and Grace.

I can always find something better to do than watch Will and Grace. Always. I just don’t care for the show. I don’t think it’s very funny at all. But then, I think Weird Al is hilarious, and other people don’t think he’s very funny. To each his own kind of humor, and no hard feelings. (I also think Seinfeld is totally non-funny. And Friends–blech! But I LOVED Arrested Development!)

I think that if you can watch Will and Grace with discernment, it’s OK. We need to remember that the Church has condemned the practice of homosexual sex, and that no matter how charming and handsome Will is, if he is practicing homosexual sex, then he is living in sin and needs to be reconciled to God. We can’t just “forget all about sin” while we’re being entertained.

I think that ALL TV should be watched with discernment. For example, many shows featuring African Americans present such a distorted view of African Americans! It’s embarrassing! And many shows present single women who live lavish lifestyles, even though they work as receptionists in big cities, and in real life, would be sharing a one-room efficiency with at least one other roommate! And most shows totally distort children, presenting them as miniature wise-cracking adults who always says something clever, and who are always “at Grandma’s” when the adults in the show want to have sex in the living room. How real is that?!

If you don’t like the show, then change the channel.

I didn’t watch Brokeback Mountain, because I knew I wouldn’t feel comfortable watching it, not because it was sinful to watch it. However, if somebody else wanted to watch it, then thats their choice.

Like it or not, homosexuality has become part of our culture, not a major part, but a part. Do I think it’s normal behavior, no I don’t. Do I favor gay marriage, no I don’t. However, I’m also not “homophobic”, at least I try not to be. IMO, I think being gay is something that most homosexuals cannot help, and as long as somebody is not trying to force that lifestyle on me, then it’s none of my business what somebody does behind closed doors. If it’s on TV and I don’t want to watch it, I change the channel.

Will and Grace was a funny and entertaining show that happen to have 2 gay characters. It only lightly touched on the subject of homosexuality, and when it did, it so in a humorous way.

If God is truly offended by gays practicing their sexuality, then they will have to answer for it someday.

Bill O’Reilly, Hannity and Limbaugh try to normalize fascism, imo…should people not watch because of MY opinion?

Agreed. I find it funny when people get self righteous about WILL and GRACE, its always the gay theme, never Karen’s alcoholism, being a lush and pill freak as well as Grace sleeping around - as if that stuff isnt nothing compared to the gay people on the show. All the charactors were misfits just like the ones on Seinfeld. Some of us find it funny - if you dont, fine, stop preaching as to what we dont see as sin.

It is this naivete that assists in the promotion of homosexual behavior as normal, natural and “fun”, and of those opposed to it as somewhere between “party poopers who are not hip” and violent bigots. We need to constantly remind ourselves of exactly what is really harmful to us (spiritually, medically, psychologically), and who is acting in our best interests, those promoting homosexual behavior or the (unfortunately) small minority trying to stop the homosexual agenda.

There was a time when most would recognize a TV program created primarily to push an agenda and an immoral one at that. Unfortunately, this time is past as we are bombarded with immoral (evil) propoganda, which this program is, and now regard its vulgarity and perversion as just light-hearted entertainment. The young soak programs like this in like sponges, and for many, this type of conduct is the only “adult” behavior regularly modeled for them in their homes. Others’ tacit approval of it, by watching it and being entertained by it, simply reinforces homosexual behavior (mannerisms and sexual behavior) to the young as positive and fun, and normal for healthy adults.

“JUST a TV show” - nothing could be further from the truth.

You know I may start getting it on DVD just to see what it is all about after this thread.

Personally, I think there is a better way to spend a half hour…anything is better than watching this program…it just isn’t funny, no matter who is performing it.

What a shame.
What is the shame exactly?
First of all, other than flat out gay sex, there is no such thing as ‘homosexual behavior’. My roommate is gay and you’d never know.

If by ‘homosexual behavior’ you mean the open acknowledgment of ones homosexuality, it IS completely normal.
I think perhaps you misunderstood the other poster. I am sure what was meant by homosexual behavior was living as an unchaste homosexual. Certainly having same-sex attraction and acknowledging it is not a problem.

As far as stereotypical gay behavior and the portrayal of homosexual men as effeminate… Will and Grace is full of that.
Because if Will and Grace included a Catholic character that believed homosexuality was a choice, and could be changed, it’d overshadow the rest of the comedy on the show.
Actually, I saw that episode, except it was evangelical Christians, not Catholics. The show made fun of anyone who would believe that anyone could ever change their orientation. The Christians were portrayed as stupid bigots. In the end of the episode, it turned out that the rehabilitation group, meant to help homosexuals become heterosexuals, was a great place for men to pick up men.

I think you may misunderstand what the Catholic Church teaches about homosexuality. The orientation itself, same-sex attraction, is not wrong. There is no requirement for the person to change their orientation. The Church does not teach that the orientation is a choice, rather that there could be a variety of factors that cause it. The Church has not even ruled out the possibility that the orientation could be in part or totally genetic.

That said, behavior is a choice. And homosexuals, like all of us, are called to live chastely.

I thought it was funny, as well as many other viewers. Again, if you don’t like it, change the channel. I’m sure there are programs you watch that I would not like. Everybody has their own tastes.

Maybe I’ve watched the wrong episodes, but I haven’t noticed anything effeminate. Plenty are not; though that is hardly news.

What’s wrong with that ? People *do *make fun of others, and showing this going on is accurate: not propagandistic.

The Christians were portrayed as stupid bigots.

Which is also true to life - plenty are not, but plenty are. Quite a few are more than bigots - unfortunately. Making fun of such people seems quite right: not only do they often ask for it, but humour is a very good way of getting rid of one’s less constructive emotions.

In the end of the episode, it turned out that the rehabilitation group, meant to help homosexuals become heterosexuals, was a great place for men to pick up men.

This is not unknown.

For those who watched the final episode: Did you notice how Will’s child and Grace’s child showed an interest in each other and eventually got married - as husband and wife? It could’ve easily gone the other way (ie a homosexual “union”) but it didn’t. I think there is something to be said about that conclusion. 🙂
