Is Weekly Confession "Too" Much?

The title of this thread really caught my eye as I’ve been wondering the same thing of late.

But I’m thinking that it may be too often for me in my present state. On the whole it is a great thing to do.

I go weekly simply because we now have Adoration and Benediction, followed by Mass, every Friday evening. During the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament father is available to hear confessions.

In this way I have overcome (THROUGH GOD’S GRACE!) some habitual mortal sins.
However, in my last two confessions father has told me that I’m being too hard on myself.

I think part of my problem is my examination of conscience.
If I have some mortal sins to confess ‘no problemo’. Lately, however, it seems like this sinful man is perfect. Eh???

When converting I was told that one receives many graces when able to receive Holy Communion in a state of grace.

We can only receive communion in the state of grace. But we are still in a state of grace if we only have venial sins. In fact receiving communion absolves one of venial sin, as does a number of other prayers or activities.

I go to confession probably every 6 weeks when I meet with my spiritual director.

Daily confession is not too much.

Can you have too much of a good thing?

That said I tend to go twice a monthy

=dailey;7345479]I usually like to go to confession a couple times a month (at least). Some times I will even go once a week. The last time I went though, the priest said he didn’t think I had a good idea of what sin was, lol!

I admit, the sins I confess are not mortal ones, however, I enjoy going to confession…even though I usually end up confessing things like fighting with my husband, envy, etc. I was chatting with my dad and mentioned this…and he said he thought it might be a sin to go too often since I am wasting the priest time.

Any thoughts? As far as I know, there are no “rules” in the church that state we cannot go weekly??

IT’s NOT a Sin; it’s a VG pious practice!

Many Saints have done it weekly and some even more often.

That said: Because your in the State og Grace; you might consdier working on the next “spiritual step.” Identify your geatest fault, and work on a plan for correcting and eliminating it; then move on to the next one.

I go to weekly confession. Considering I work in a “locker room atmosphere” among other things, it keeps me in check and helps me with sins I have gotten into the habit of committing after years of committing them. Great therapy for my soul.

Frequent confession is how you get the graces to avoid serious sin (or even less than serious sin). No point in waiting until you fall into mortal sin to get the help you need! Confessing venial sins and imperfections is a VERY good practice.

The just man falls seven times a day, so I’d say confession every three hours might not be inappropriate. (Actually, that WOULD be scrupulous - daily confession is probably good enough! Not that I’m that devout, unfortunately, but I’d hardly want to discourage someone from being more pious than that.)

I prefer to “get used to” going to confession often than to “get used to” committing venial sins as a matter of habit.

I go to confession weekly and the quote above is one of the reasons. While venial sins aren’t as bad as mortal ones, in my opinion, they are the second greatest evil in the world. They still offend the God we should love above all else.
