Is worship music ok?

Last week I had this coversation with an anticatholic religion members, www.luzdelmundo.net, they said music is no longer required, but a blasphemy if use to worship. They based their doctrine in the book of Ezequiel 26:13.

Does any body have information regarding this issue?
 
That passage is taken so completely out of context it is amazing.

Begin reading at Ezekial 26:1. You will see that God is angry with the people of Tyre because they are pleased with the negative things happening to Jerusalem. Because of this, God punishes them. He proceeds to list a number of things he will do to them. When He says in verse 13 that their songs will be silenced, He is referring to part of the ruin that will come to Tyre in their punishment. It’s really one of the most out-of-context statements I have ever heard in my life.
 
Also, I have to say that taking verses like that out of context is a terrible blasphemy against the Word of God. Doing so is to compltetely ignore God’s message and what He wants to tell us. 😦

Of course, most of the people who say things like that don’t mean to do it. Most of them haven’t ever really read the Bible other than what their pastors read in church, and then to find “evidence” like Ezekial 26:13 to tell people who are of other denominations. They are doing what they think is right and God wants, so in their hearts they really are loving God. We of course have to correct them, but always remembering that what they do they do out of love for God (most of the time).

I agree, but this particular interpretation would upset most Protestants. The Protestant beliefs are close enough to the Bible that its possible to see how they could get them out of it. This one is so far from the Bible it is hard to see how it could have been reached without reading that one verse and one verse alone. I can’t imagine how anybody who read the verses around that one could come to teach it is a condemnation of worship music. :confused:
 
Threre are some other verses mentioned, but I was not able to get them all. I talked to them over the phone and through their program at a radio station last Thursday. Next Monday, yesterday, they were “teaching” why is that music must not be use to worship.
 
Also, I would like to know if there are links talking about the subject with Bible references and all.
 
Well, that may be tough. There may be Bible verses that can help support music, but I don’t think so. The reason is that one group I know of which denies music does so on the basis of what they call “respecting the silence of God.” This is basically what Ulrich Zwingli did in the 1500s and what led him to destroy all the church organs in Switzerland.

The idea is that if a practice is not specifically permitted by Scripture, it is not allowed because one must always respect that God taught us everything He wished to. In their minds, if we do things which aren’t in the Bible, we are acting as though God didn’t have the ability to teach us everything He wanted.

The biggest problem with this idea is obviously that the Bible never says it, so it is completely self contradictory, even moreso than Sola Scriptura is. The other biggest problem is that all the explanations I have ever seen of it are so strong that if we followed this principle we would not be allowed to do things like listen to the radio, wear wristwatches, or play baseball because the Bible never tells us we are allowed to. In fact, the Bible never tells us it’s permitted to read the Bible in worship, or to give sermons, or to teach in worship, so they have a whole slew of problems.

If you get some other verses, I will be happy to figure out what’s wrong with them.
 
I think I got it now. I found a book. Its called Where To Find It In The Bible. The Ultimate A to Z Resource, by Ken Anderson. Thursday, August 4 they are going to talk, on their radio program 900 AM, an not FM at 9:00pm, about true worship. I am going to use the Ultimate Resource to answer their “teachings”. Thank you very much for your time. By the way the radio program could be heard on the Los Angeles Area.
