Is yoga demonic or no?

The concern here is: can Satan work through these things?

The answer, it seems, is yes.
Satan can work through anything… including priests, including the Church.

Anyone who denies this obviously doesn’t know their history.

Really? All I see is concession.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I don’t do yoga. 😉

I just find that, after seeing so many threads like this in the past, those who evangelize against it have only a poor record of logical consistency.

One of the funniest post I can remember is where one poster said that because the same position we use to search under the coach is a Yoga position, good Catholics must refrain from kneeling or getting on the floor or risk possession.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

See my profile? I would think people have seen me post here longer than you. Cool off.
So youre saying the Church has a poor record of logicsl consistency? The Churh speaks against Yoga.

You said you do yoga for “geeky lulz” did you not?

Posting here longer than me means nothing. Your words, however, do mean something and I am noticing a pattern with all of your antagonizing, sarcastic posts.

(I think I stopped taking you seriously after you claimed the Blessed Virgin Mary at La Salette was heretical, even though that is Church approved).

I think it only goes to show how you haven’t been here long enough to see how sarcastic I’ve seen other people get towards this particular area of CAF. 😉

Wait till someone brings up stuff like Halloween here.

The way I see it, you have shown that you are not only hot-headed but that it keeps you from re-evaluating threads. Again, please cool off.
(I think I stopped taking you seriously after you claimed the Blessed Virgin Mary at La Salette was heretical, even though that is Church approved).
Source? You accuse me. Now it’s time to accuse you. Making false claims about other posters specifically is a graver offense compared to my ‘sarcastic’ posts.

They’are also used in Shinto… as well as by ninjas and Oriental fantasy characters.

They are not exclusive to religious practices any more than the cassock is exclusive to Catholicism.

Read again: “…geeky lulz.”

😛
How do you make the Ninja sign for “wild goose chase”? 😃

How do you make the Ninja sign for “wild goose chase”? 😃
Sadly I don’t know any for geese. 😛

I do know this sign that is supposed to be for… reads scroll “Thousand Birds Singing.” <----(Hint: Google those keywords next to the word “japanese” and click first result for more geeky lulz 🤓)

Oh wait… this one does have a warning… reads on but… nothing to do with demons.

“Warning: Side effects include the short-circuiting of nearby electronic devices. Do not attempt to use whilst wearing any highly-conductive material.”

sees mysterious additional scribble

“Lightning jutsu backfires this way.”

It seems like because YOU do yoga you want to sway people to succumb to YOUR brand of spirituality, and because you do it, it must be OK.
A lot of people do yoga without it having anything to do with their “brand” of spirituality, you know.

Really? All I see is concession.

They are burning with passion for their faith which is in Christ. RC even says he is happy that some people find relief but nevertheless he is concerned.
Fr. Davies’ (an Oxford graduate who is also a qualified physician) comments come in conjunction with the publication of his new book, entitled, “Exorcism: Understanding Exorcism in Scripture and Practice” published earlier this year by the Catholic Truth Society (CTS)…“The thin end of the wedge (soft drugs, yoga for relaxation, horoscopes just for fun and so on) is more dangerous than the thick end because it is more deceptive - an evil spirit tries to make his entry as unobtrusively as possible.”…“Beware of any claim to mediate beneficial energies (e.g. reiki), any courses that promise the peace that Christ promises (e.g. enneagrams), any alternative therapy with its roots in eastern religion (e.g. acupuncture).” Needless to say, overtly occult activities such as séances and witchcraft are “direct invitations to the Devil which he readily accepts.”
Fr. Davies was appointed exorcist of the Westminster Archdiocese in 1986 after a four month training period in Rome. In 1993 he co-founded, with Italy’s Father Gabriele Amorth, the International Association of Exorcists which now has hundreds of members worldwide. In 2000, Fr. Davies told the Independent newspaper that incidents of demonic possession are rising dramatically along with the increase of New Age beliefs and practices, ignorance of the Bible and a growth in spiritual confusion. “At the centre of this is man’s ever-growing pride and attempted self-reliance. Man trying to build a better world without God - another Tower of Babel,” he said.

By responding to LW’s posts rather than ignoring their existence altogether, and by disagreeing with him openly, you are opening a door that none of you can close. Just a word of warning. The posts will continue to be sarcastic and biting and when they finally elicit anger he will ask you to cool down.

Now I expect some kind of retort but I’ll most likely ignore it altogether.

I’ve stated similar things. Simply putting one’s hands together in Catholic prayer position is also a position in yoga. It’s the intent that matters; not the fact that some Hindu dude also did the same position.

Exercise is fine; worshipping Hindu gods in not. Most people can separate the two, but some cannot. Those that considering themselves worshipping Hindu gods when exercising should not do those exercises. The rest of us will continue to be buff and flexible. 🙂

At least RC & CrimsonThorn are far more credible from appearances alone:
I’m sure Samson thought the same thing when he saw one of Jesse’s big, strong sons. Surely he picked one of them to be king instead of some stone-flinging little runt whose name starts with D eh? 😉

Riiight… just cuz I try to be stylish with my sig instead of wearing my faith on my sleeve means I must be soooo evil.

Folks, this is the example of what’s wrong with this section, with our religion, and why everyone no longer gives us an ear.
The religious position you promote seems to like it is OK to mix up religious practices of pagans with Christ’s Teachings. And CrimsonThorn’s advice to you has the ring of truth.
Correction: Ring of your truth cuz you can’t stand someone who has just enough experience dabbling in the so-called ‘occult’ aesthetics you and the people you ally with here fear but has not experienced the so-called spiritual depression.

The only thing you people have is appeal to authority and a shallow world view that judges based on appearances.

Again, with folks like you handling our PR, the devil has no need for manifestation.

come on brother. We don’t need this kind of talk. You kind of crossed the line on this one. We’re all in a battle. We don’t need his kind of discouragement.

But anyways

I just see the church is really split on this topic. On one hand church leaders are saying that it is a great thing to do for you mind, body, and spirit. There are even priests who are yoga instructors. kripalu.org/presenter/V0000213/fr_thomas_ryan

On the other hand

We have church leaders saying it is unacceptable and it leads to Eastern Mysticism, or even something so dangerous as possession. ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/dload1.asp?audiofile=iq_1676.mp3&source=file_index.asp&seriesID=842969394&T1=

I do not mean to put these priests on blast and in the open like that, but I want to get to the bottom of this! My uncle is a yogi and he taught me a lot of the Hindu philosophies when I would visit him. I want to separate yoga from the spiritual aspects!

I’m not the one taking petty jabs at other’s users signatures and accusing me of denying some obscure apparition. That’s not crossing the line to you?

Honestly, you’re better off taking reality (your experience especially) over some of the posters here. You have actually demonstrated what the scared critics here claim to be impossible. Separate an aesthetic from its so-called ‘spiritual element’.

I’m just here as added proof given that what you’ve done with yoga, I’ve done countless times with religious symbols and pagan imagery.

Satan can work through anything… including priests, including the Church.
The Church belongs to Christ, and Satan will never prevail against it. And priests, or anyone who has received the Sacrament of Holy Orders, are consecrated to act In Persona Christi. St. Francis of Assisi was so well-aware of God’s special protection of His Church that he once said:
The Lord has given me such great faith in the ministers that live according to the form of Holy Roman Church, in reason of their Order, that even if they were to persecute me, I would ask their very help. …] If I were to see an angel and a priest, I would bend my knee; first to the priest, then to the angel.
We know the Church belongs to Christ, but to whom do these strange practices belong to?

So basically, you deny the historical evidence and sincerely believe that the Church has never had ANY hand in enabling evil?

Come now, surely you’re not that out of touch? Even Peter denied Christ three times.
We know the Church belongs to Christ, but to whom do these strange practices belong to?
‘Strange practices’? No offense, but you sound like a missionary with a weird appetite for deliberate culture shock.

Just because yoga does not bear some medieval, Western aesthetic is no reason to just call it ‘strange’ or worse, condemn.

Forgive my bluntness but I can’t say I’d take comfort talking to such types if they walk in on me playing with hand seals out of boredom.

I simply say that I am in no position to judge the Church, which is lead by Christ and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Let the house master rule, discipline, judge, praise and condemn His house.

And only evil enables evil, along with those who individually choose to serve evil. The Church has never done this, since the Church is the mystical body of Christ. Maybe individual members or groups of members have - but I am in no position to either know this or, if I knew, judge this.

🤷 What can I say? Anything not centered on God is, in my eyes, strange. There is no judgment or offense in the word “strange”, it simply means “unfamiliar”, “from elsewhere”.

You claim to be the spiritual expert here but you can’t even come to terms with the fact that the Church has both human and spiritual sides to it?

To think your buddies here call me uninformed.

The word ‘strange’ is not so much what I find problematic as this impression you are giving. “Not centered on God”? I’d be wary of such rhetoric given that the best way to spread a message is through connection and not deliberate alienation.

**Who’s expert, me? 😃 Far from it! 😃 I’m one of the most ignorant fellows on this forum. I just quote some documents, throw some comments that I think are reasonable, try to rely on the Gospels and on the teachings of the Church 🙂

If you want to think that the Church has been enabling evil, I guess you are free to do so 🤷 I’ve met people who said the Church belongs to Satan 🤷 I simply learned from someone with teaching authority that the Church is one, holy, universal, apostolic, belongs to God, does God’s will, and will never be subject to Satan, and I have not found a greater authority to teach me otherwise.**

Ok, however in my ignorance I do not know how yoga is centered on God so I find it strange 🤷 If one day I learn that I was mistaken and I learn that it is actually centered on God, like the Rosary or Eucharistic adoration, then it will no longer be strange in my eyes 🤷

I take this as admittance that you commit the logical fallacy of appealing to authority.

You’ve got bigger problems if you view the entire world as if its supposed to revolve around our religion like some pious robot.

Call it whatever you want. I am ignorance and nothingness on my own. As a child, I had my parents to teach me, they were the authority from which I learned proper education and proper manners. As an adult, I have the Church to teach me, the authority from which I learn how to live a life that is helpful to others and pleasing to God. I do not know how much of a fallacy it is to appeal to what my mom taught me when I refuse to eat without first washing my hands, or to what the Church taught me when I refuse to profess that the Church enables evil 🤷

The Church also admits to the fallibility of its human side yet you choose to ignore that teaching.

Actually, no. I did concede that individual members or groups of members can be mistaken and even do what is bad in the eyes of God (we’ve seen it happen). They are not the Church.

You’ve got bigger problems if you view the entire world as if its supposed to revolve around our religion like some pious robot.

Christianity has the fullness of God’s revelation, and is fully preserved in the Catholic Church. We learn from the Catechism the following:
843 The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as "a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life.
