There was only a one-line mention of Divine Mercy Sunday in the Pastor’s weekly letter in the bulletin and a one-sentence mention during Sunday mass – presumably so that no one can complain that it was completely ignored. Our parish has a small Divine Mercy icon – which was purchased with money specifically donated for this purpose – which was put out on Sunday and is now put away, presumably 'til next year.
Fortunately, we do have some people in the parish who are very interested in spreading the devotion and they put together a service that involved Eucharistic Adoration, Benediction, Rosary, a Litany and, of course, the chaplet. This year, a deacon helped with the Benediction. Our pastor, who is a wonderful servant of God, does not discourage, but definitely does not encourage, devotion to the Divine Mercy. Several of us cannot figure out why he does not like it. However, we are blessed to have him leading our parish.
God bless,
Dan
