I’m afraid mine doesn’t seem to be. Here’s the exchange that happened at the end of mass, at the point when our priest usually gives a last minute announcement or makes some funny comment for a laugh.
Priest (smiling): Ok folks, let’s practice for next Sunday. The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Priest (still smiling): No, how it will be next Sunday. The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Priest (no longer smiling and sounding a little exasperated): No, and with your spirit.
People: murmer murmer murmer
Priest: Remember, we’re starting the new translation next Sunday.
People: murmer murmer murmer
Teenager next to me (sounding outraged): What, they’re changing the mass?!
So much for all the announcements, the talks offered after mass, some new musical mass parts announced to be for the new translation, and the bulletin inserts including a big packet one week going through all the changes. Granted this was the Vigil Mass crowd and the talks after mass were after the Sunday morning mass, so maybe more of the regular Sunday massgoers attended the talks. I wasn’t able to make them so I don’t know how well attended they were.
I’m really hoping next Sunday isn’t as rough as I’m fearing it will be.
