Seeing one meme after another on social media, even t-shirts women have slated on their wish list to buy and wear broadcasting this sentiment. If you’ve read any of my posts, you can summise how I might feel about this. Just curious how others might weigh in on this - is your spouse your BEST friend?

The resounding voice in my head is Dr. Ray on one of his shows negating the old addage “Opposites Attract.” I couldn’t agree more that this is decidedly NOT true, at least, not for DH and I. Being 1) a woman and 2) Catholic, my best friends are women I can share my faith with. If I can’t TT my GFs about it, there’s nobody I CAN TT about.

Yes, without question. No one else even comes close. He’s my closest friend and confidante. We can and do spend hours just talking about anything and everything. But he’s also my football buddy, my camping buddy, the guy I meet up with for drinks after work, and the person I’ll spend 8 hours on a lazy Saturday playing Call of Duty with.

I would actually consider it a betrayal to form a closer friendship with someone else than I have with him, regardless of age, gender, or familial relationship.

What does TT mean?

I agree with BEL; your primary attachment ought to be to your spouse.

Yes, and at times he can be my nemesis. A husband/wife relationship is so special in that way… The closeness you share as a couple and as the matriarch/patriarch of a family is something God meant to be shared in a marriage. I have wonderful female friends too, but none that can compete with the level of personal closeness that I have with my husband. I feel like I share with my girlfriends things that my husband wouldn’t be interested in… Girl things…

If I want to talk about something, my husband is always the one who really understands me. We are together all day, every day and I never get tired of it. He is definitely my best friend.

Change football into soccer, camping into going to the gym, and CoD into Warcraft or Zombies!(a tabletop apocalypse game) and that’s pretty much exactly what I would have written.

I’ll bet the trouble you have with picking out an anniversary card is buying just one.

We also go to the gym and play table top RPGs. But no soccer for us, at least not yet.😃

I can’t really imagine not being married to my best friend. Or being closer to anyone than I am to him. I have girlfriends, but he is the one person always there and who knows me better than anyone.

Yes. Absolutely. He is the one who understands me, even when I don’t understand myself sometimes…if that makes sense. 🙂

Definitely, yes, my husband is my best friend. I treasure my female friends, and I talk to them often, usually about things my husband would not be interested in. Still, I feel closer to my husband than to anyone else. So grateful that God brought him into my life.

Yup.

There is literally no one on this earth I’m closer to. No one who knows me better. No one I trust more.

How could I not marry my best friend?

He’s my partner in crime, my closest confidant and my biggest cheerleader and I’m the same for him.

My thought is very similar to you. Mine is my football buddy and baseball and soccer buddy, we don’t fi camping but he is my outdoor buddy and we don’t drunk but hr is also my buddy to hang out Lol He and I were already friends before even dating so yes at thus point i t would feel as a betrayal to form such a close friendship with someone else. we obviously have other friends … Granted many in common and the ones that were not in common became in common – but yes, same feeling here.

It looks like I may be the first male to respond to this topic, but coming from the other side of the story, I think it’s at least a little appropriate for me to comment about my wife.

Yes. Without a doubt. No one in the world is as close to me as she is. I have a great many guy friends, and I love hanging out with them. I’ve been friends with many of them a good deal longer than I’ve known my wife (we were married this April, met and started dating September 2012), but that changes nothing. I can’t imagine being married to anyone who wasn’t my best friend!

Without question my wife was my best friend. And we were - in many ways- quite opposite to one another, but it made no difference.
I miss her every day.

Good to read about the deep love and friendship among many couples .

One good way to enhance good friendships and restore any frayed ones would be , to often join the spouse , in the spirit , to say WITH them, one in heart , the familiar everyday prayers of the Our Father , Hail Mary and Glory be of the Rosary prayers , often , through the day , extending same, to other family and persons as well ;

that union in the spirit can be beyond space and even time.

The strenghtening and infilling in The Holy Spirit , deliverance from traits of fallen nature , cleansing of family lines , all the blessings uttered in those prayers - a gift of friendship that can be bestowed on each other through the days !

’ In Name of Jesus , asking for the two edged sword of the HolySpirit , to severe anything that is not of You ’ - for those who need 'spiritual surgery ’ -
in list prayers of Fr.Carl’s book on Freedom Through Deliverance .

Hope there would be many more thriving , blessed couples and relationships
in our midst !

Yes, my husband is my best friend. I know that not all marriages work that way, and many are very happy, but for myself, I cannot imagine a happy marriage where the spouses are not best friends. But that is just because my experience of friendship and marriage is all that I know.
