How does your bible read on this verse?

I have checked many and there is only one translation that uses the word Potter.

Anyone else’s have the word potter in it to describe God?

are there any bible references to God being a potter in the entire bible?

Please cite the translation you are using.

Thank you

okay I’ll give you four versions that use the word potter for God- the NRSV. REB, NAB & NJB

I just checked Bible Gateway and almost every English translation uses “potter” in that verse. The Douay-Rheims says “maker” and the Young’s Literal Translation says, “framer.” Other than that, they all said, “potter.” I checked NIV, NASB, The Message, Amplified, NLT, KJV, 21st Cent. KJV, ESV, CEV, NKJV, NCV, HCSB, ASV, NIrV, and TNIV.

Also, a search for “potter” in the D-R on Bible Gateway got me several results where God refers to Himself as a potter.

Why do you ask?

I was posting this for a JW who does not trust this site.

I merely copied her e-mail to me and put it on here.

I dont have the heart to tell her what mine says, so I just let the posts fly, so its not coming from me.

Thank you!🙂

I edited her comment that she thinks its because of Harry Potter.

This seems to be a continued analogy started in Isaiah 29:16 and 41:25. Jeremiah continues it in chapters 18 and 19.

second part of your question God is referred to as a potter in Isaiah 29:16;45:9;64:8.Jer18:6.Rom9:21:thumbsup:

I just got an e-mail from her to update this.

Her version is Potter. She wants to emphasize the capital P.

I dont get it, but I promised I would ask if anyone sees how a capital P would make a difference here.

🤷

capital P is because we generally capitize G in God right, so since the Potter is God it would be a captial.

what think? 🤷

we are the clay and He is the Potter, making and molding us. . . .

I agree, I am wondering why its an issue really.

What does your bible have, a capital P or not?

All of mine have lower case P.

I dont even see why it really matters.

She told me it was because of Harry Potter. And that Jehovah should never be discussed in attributes with a capital.

🤷

Maybe this is why they have an “Almighty God”, and a mighty “god” Jesus.

Maybe Harry Potter is god or God or Jehovah or Michael the archangel or- ehh what the heck. There is no way to figure out a JW- they are Watchtower clones.I’ve never met one yet who didn’t quote:D 😃 (almost word for word) the company line.👍

In a quick perusal through Bible Gateway (again) the first translation I encountered that used capital “P” for potter is the Amplified. The most recent copyright date for the AMP is 1987. The first Harry Potter book was released in 1998. To claim that a capital “P” for Potter in the Bible has anything to do with Harry, the fictional character, is anachronistic, sorry.

there is also a passage in romans about God being the potter, and we are the clay.

🙂

You would not believe how confusing this has been for her, poor thing cant even “trust” this site. I told her we don’t bite.😃
I told her there are even JW’s here.
The confusion, is I think that there is such a lack of trust towards everything and anything so, I offered to post so she could see multiple reactions to all this. I dont even know if she trusts the posts or not. I told her that of all things, this is such a small matter compared to so many other bible verses that are much more important.
It was good for me too, since I was basically hoping I could find a better way to telll her than, “What?” “Does it really matter?”

This will be the clincher. This is what gets me, check the facts THEN decide if there is something sinister going on!😃

Excellent. Now this one is a shut case.

As if it were ever open!
🙂

I know, merceygate, I know.

but, I like to illustrate that I am not giving her my PERSONAL opinion by doing this with her.

I know there are so many issues that prevent trusting others in that faith since even by her own admission, she thinks that while I may be a “nice” person, I have been fed lies all my life and that one day I will see all the pagan blah blahs, in the things I believe.

Sheesh. I told her to come here and see how untrue that is, but step by step, slowly. 🙂
