. As the tribal traditions influenced the Sunni departure from the Successorship of Ali, and their lot murdered every single one of the Imams, they are suspect to the hilt. The Sunnite political doctrines emerged mainly in the struggle against the legitimism (right to rule by inheritance) espoused by the Shiites. The Shiites developed a doctrine of the infallibility, sinlessness, and divine right to authority of the descendents of the fourth caliph, Ali ibn Abu Talib, who’s wife, Fatima, was a direct descendent of Muhammed. They maintained that only the descendants of Ali and Fatima, imams, were entitled to rule the Muslim community. The imam as the Shiites conceive him is a repository of wisdom, absolute in his political and religious authority. Under the theoretical aegis of the 12th imam, Shiite religious leaders exercise immense influence. They are more likely to take an innovative approach to religious issues and to defy political authority than their Sunni counterparts.
. The Imamate continued till the year 260, and the Quran speaks of a thousand years, until added together yield the year 1260. This same number appears in the Bible in numerous places in several forms. As time (360) times (720) and a half (180), which equal 1260. As 42 months, 42 X 30 = 1260. As 3 1/2 days (same as 3 1/2 times) which equal 1260, and as 1260 directly, as appears in Revelation.
. The intersection of 1260 AH with the 2300 days (years) prophesied in Daniel coincides with the year 1844 AD, lending further credibility to the Shi’ih position. Unfortunately, the complete corruption of Shi’ite Iran by that time is its darkest hour, from which it has never recovered, and continues to plummet.
