Most scholars and respected religious leaders agree that the reverence given Mohomad is exactly what he repeatedly teaches against. The reverence that was given him may have even altered the focus of what he was saying. There is no justification for discrimination in quaran. Men are however seen as the leaders of the church or mosque. This originates in Judaism and is present in Christianity. There is a passage that condons hitting ones spouse. Mohomad reportidly was uncomfortable with this. Again this may be a concession to gentile culture or a concession to law and order, either existing or seen as necessary.
Islam does not have in itself a government, political party or code of law (although some of this is mentioned i.e. chopping off of hand for theft – this does not seem to originate from Judaism like something like stoning might). It is used in politics however. The catholic church is used in politics as well, i.e. the abortion issue. A criticism of this is that the support of a government or political party based upon one issue, even if it is the most important issue needs to follow the church on all issues. The catch here being that if the political opponents are even worse then the lesser of two evils is result in a two-party system. Support for the church, Catholicism or Christianity in whole rather than issue agreement insures that all issues are met and generally prevents lying ones way into office.
The scriptures do not condemn abortion, they do not condemn condoms. The focus is draw away from sexual issues and placed upon Christ. So the opposition to abortion and condoms can be seen as a inferred value, if you like. Imposing a law that makes abortion illegal can be seen as:
One, a value forced, by threat of retribution, upon the public by religion (lets assume you won out on your issue).
Two, a law derived from religious interpretation or opinion not well established fundamental teaching.
Three, a belief or opinion that is not inextricably linked to spiritual life but of material life (forcing virtues does not a saint make).
Four, oppressive violation of freedoms by the church through government (note that there is no governmental reason to make such a law only the political one).
Five, a violation of religious right to go to hell (although there is also the idea of living by the sword, dieing by the sword).
All of that said, there is no contradiction between the Christianity and the condemning of abortion. The church however is founded on the Trinity not on man made institutions. The impetus of involving oneself in its legislation is political not spiritual. It is very much upon us to break free from these bindings. This is not to condon sin but to prevent the violation of communion.
It is from this stand point that the laws in Muslim cultures need to be addressed. Islam is in its origins a religion of the same God as the Catholic church and as to dealt with as such. The beliefs on the nature of God of Islam are closer to those of Catholicism than those of Protestant churches. Ceremonially Muslim countries differ more greatly as it was a religion taken and not given or defected. In its instantiation there was no prevailing wisdom of Judaism, Christ, etc. and so it was and is more easily perverted for political and cultural agendas. Mohammad’s teachings were primarily developing the notion of “one God”, the difference between man and God, the mercy and similarities of God, the power of God, the nonidolic nature of God. Jesus Christ is meaningless without this information.
Montalban,
as a Muslim, whatever Allah says will go.
Even if Allah says your 2 year old sister or cousin is old enough for sex with the Indian guy next door, you must also consent.
Remember, islam means submission! Do not question.
Oooh, Allah.
The proposition implies an age of consent. Implications lead to implementations and you have not provided an age contrary to 9 unfortunately. As I said I think 9 is a ridiculous number. You give me the 2. Even in jest statements are made. But I think you’re just throwing numbers out there. Why not put out what you have to say? Try putting two ideas together and give us something meaningful. All I have right now is 11.
Christianity involves submission. Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son for God.
"But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. "
Resist ye good? Resist ye God?
If you can’t deal with Islam meaning submission to God you might want to get some chicken bones or something because Christianity can be real bad for your health.
