…There should be an international ban on dhimmitude…it needs to be condemned by the world.
There has been a ban on slavery for a long time. What makes you think that merely condemning dhimmitude will motivate anyone any more than condemning slavery? The U.N., and democratic societies in general, have relied on other countries’ desire to be good and do the right things. But the reason bad institutions persist is because there are no adverse consequences for their perpetrators. [This is why appeasement doesn’t work.] One might ask why some choose to do evil in the first place. It’s because some people are just no damned good: they look upon other people only as an opportunity to do evil. Therefore, since it is a lot easier to change incentives than to change people [as http://www.city-journal.org/2010/20_3_social-science.html”]this study] notes, there needs to be some price to pay by purveyors of evil. The problem then becomes one of who watches the watchers.

I was referring to dhimmitude in the sense of religious persecution, and to name it as such…but now remember all the different groups speaking out against religious persecution around the world.

I think everybody is afraid of Islam. Except the Islamicists are some what afraid of the Soviets and Communist Chinese. I read an article addressing this, and the real answer is because the Islamicists know there will be repercussions that could follow their own families.

It is an ugly world out there.

People believe the lie long enough they believe it…then why did Spain oust the Moors?

The Copts appear to be living in dhimmitude in Egypt if they are restrained from building churches. Atleast they don’t have to wear green clothes.

There should be an international ban on dhimmitude…it needs to be condemned by the world.
Islamicists peddle the false memories of convivencia in Andalucia, with their apologists buying and repeating the exaggerated story.

That’s a good idea there, banning dhimmitude, in places where Muslim populations dominate.

Sadly, the UN deems it more important to appease its OIC members, by voting a resolution in favor of blasphemy /defamation of religion laws. See here.

The UN is a disgrace. It no longer has respectability as an organization. Radical Muslims and oppressive Muslim governments would feel justified in continuing to commit violence against critics of Islam and its Prophet, and to violate human rights by quashing legitimate voices of injustice against other Muslims and non-Muslims in the Middle East and the rest of the world.

Speaking about Islamic violence, where is the outrage (beyond lip service) by Muslims against the recent deadly outbreaks against native Christians in Egypt, Iraq, Nigeria, and the Philippines? Right in the middle of the Christian holy days and in their places of worship!

.

The UN is the OIC. 57 members is probably the largest plurality in the UN.

The UN is a disgrace. It no longer has respectability as an organization.
I am almost 70 years old, and I cannot remember a time when the UN was not a disgrace or had even a modicum of respectability.

Sedonaman,
I agree with your points on the UN but wanted to add, the one thing I think the UN did well was rallying together for the Korean War. Unfortunately the armistice stalemate since 1953 is a legacy of that, however, the initial response was a good 1st thing they did. 😃 I know alot of Koreans who appreciate it

Having spent a year in Korea while in the Air Force, I considered that; but recall that the only reason the UN was able to do anything is because the Soviet Union boycotted the vote [they didn’t show up] on the issue. That was the last time they ever missed a vote.

that is very true & that is why it was the only time the UN was ever effective 😃

the UN is just a bunch of people gathering together under the delusion we can all get together and sing kumbaya. Apparently they forget that in the world people have no problem disembowling you to get what they want.

As to the reality of muslim terrorism (apparently a no show for christians, buddhists and just about everyone else in that area) i think that people are deluding themselves that its a fringe phenomenon, i had a very liberal muslim guy i know, who otherwise is very moderate and is a good person say that they (terrorists) had a right to defend their religion. Now they are not his exact words but what he was saying was that he thought they had some valid reason for the terrorism, despite the fact that he personally would not support it. And this from an extremely moderate even liberal muslim.

The west needs to wake up to the fact that islamic extremism is not confined to a bunch of hoboes sitting in a cave in pakistans tribal regions, its socially engrained amongst a large proportion perhaps even the greater whole of people in many islamic societies. The west in my opinion needs to ditch the political correctness and stop kowtowing to muslims in international dialogue and within western states. Yes there are many good muslims, but ignoring the many, many fanatics is pure lunacy.

They can conform to us and accede to international standards of mutual respect and equality, not the other way round, and concrete action needs to be taken against extremist ideology amongst the western muslims also, if that requires expulsions of foreign islamic clergy, shutting down of islamic schools that are found to preach unnaceptable ideology and monitoring of mosques than I for one would do it if i was in a position to do so. So long of course as we didn;t stoop to the standards of the muslim states in actually violating freedom of religion than im fine with that despite what the blind liberalists think of it.

A good portion are of the latter kind that joined solely for the power.

Yes, they are deluding themselves. You have to be careful because Muslims are taught to be very nice when they are a minority, to lull us into dropping our guard…like we have done. [See “taqiyya” and “kitman”]. This whole idea of defending their religion has a different meaning to them than what it sounds like to us. Islam was born with the idea that it must rule the world, and therefore, anyone standing in the way of that goal is “waging aggressive war against Islam.” So, your very existence as a non-Muslim is an act of aggression against their religion, justifying an attack against you. In my debates with Muslims, they have made the point that their wars were “defensive” ones fought to protect the rights of Muslims living in non-Muslim lands, to which I asked how many Muslims were living in Vienna in 1683 that necessitated the Muslim army’s besieging a city so far away from Muslim lands. Their response was silence. Here is an interesting take on what constitutes a “moderate” Muslim. Note that Warner observes the error many make that, “I know some good Muslims; hence, Islam is good.” Another thing I have learned in my dealings with Muslims is you have to have an Islam English-to-King’s English dictionary in your hand when you debate with them.
…They can conform to us and accede to international standards of mutual respect and equality, not the other way round, …
They can’t because Islam does not have the concept that all are created in the image and likeness of God, so they believe they are “the best of peoples.” Saying we are equal would be denying this. It would also raise a lot of questions over their treatment of dhimmis…questions they probably would rather not answer.
…and concrete action needs to be taken against extremist ideology amongst the western muslims also, if that requires expulsions of foreign islamic clergy, shutting down of islamic schools that are found to preach unnaceptable ideology and monitoring of mosques than I for one would do it if i was in a position to do so. Lots of luck on this one. Liberals have worked against the slightest hints of Christianity for a long time, and now that Muslims want to build the GZM, they [liberals] suddenly discover freedom of religion. Apparently we need a Liberal English-to-King’s English dictionary in our hand when we debate with them, too.

The Religion of Peace website is reporting that in 2010, there were 1,987 attacks by radicals in 46 countries with 17,436 injured.

I read about Muslims shielding the Copt Christians with their own bodies to protect them during Christmas.

The internet is exposing bad, is giving history. You can read all angles of history…more and more is going on line.

The more people find out the whole truth about who we all are – the same before God, the more shielding will come to protect each other from the bad. If we all reach out to protect one another from bad, I believe this will work to bring much grace and forgiveness from God.

The problem is some times…who are the good? if you have the bad ones appearing to be what they are not.

As to the first thing, i doubt that muslims in the west will ever accede to our standards, it was from me an expression that they and their vision of society should not be kowtowed too. As to the second, my statement generally was what i think should be done, and an expression of what I if i was in a position of power would do. Of course you are right that the liberals have decided to ignore the reality right in front of their faces for whatever self deluded reason they have for it.

I would like you to know that I personally know Muslims who have spoken out against the terrorism directed toward Chirstians in Egypt. Later I will post something that was posted on their facebook pages. (At the moment I am not able to retrieve it) But, there certainly are many wonderful God-loving and God-fearing Muslims who are horrified by these events. And more so than us because these acts were done by so-called muslims – when infact we all know they are the children of the devil himself (I am referring to the terroists here) – until Grace befalls them – let’s not forget to pray for them as well. Yes, they are lost souls crying to be saved – and sadly they do not even realize it. But, weren’t we there once? Lost in our sin? They are caught in the grip of satan but Jesus is King over all and with our cooperation the whole world can come to know the One True God. We just need to cooperate. :egyptian:

It’s good to hear about such accounts. In fact, there is this thread Egypt’s Muslims Attend Coptic Christmas Mass As “Human Shields” that is good news to Christians, providing a glimmer of hope that, finally, the Muslims, at least in Egypt, are waking up, doing more than lip service that I was talking about in my post.

But then, there are accounts such as what is being discussed in this thread
Words from some Muslims in the Wake of Alexandria which points to the possibility that there are Muslims who still put the blame of the massacre of Christians in Egypt where it does not belong – on Pope Shenouda / the Christians – instead of the Muslims in that country who are bent on cleansing the country of its native Christian Copts.

My prayer is that the good and peaceful Muslims, especially the women, in solidarity in their own societies be instruments of reform (as they are also on the receiving end of injustice with the application of Islamic laws). I realize that bringing it up is far from any real movement taking root. There are already educated and enlightened women in Egypt, as well as in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, etc., but the yoke is hard to break. They imperil their lives and most leave Islam and move to the West or the U.S. Just take Nonie Darwish, for instance.

To even say that the situation is complicated is an understatement.

Whoa!!! I hope you not serious!! Next they will be monitoring Catholic churches and shutting down Catholic schools — read the Constitution again. Thankfully we have it. 😦

The constitution does not allow you to shout “fire” in a crowded movie house. It ought not allow you the right to shout “jihad” in a crowded, pluralistic society, either.

That’s the paradoxical thing about giving violent fascists freedom – once they have the power to do so, they turn around and deny everyone else the freedom they themselves used in order to attain their place of power in the first place. A line must be drawn somewhere, and I’d prefer it be drawn well before we have to start adding “Sallallahou alayhi wasallam” to our public discourse on Islam. If you don’t know what that means, just keep letting Islamists clean their scimitars with the constitution and your children’s children will be able to tell you all about it.

Thank you so much for the links. I didn’t know about that paper online. I kept the link so I can show my husband. 🙂

Permit me to suggest some references. The following articles are about the book and provide a summary:

The Legacy of Jihad in Historical Palestine (Part I) by Andrew G. Bostom.

Part II.

Jihad Then and Now by Lee Harris on The Legacy of Jihad edited by Andrew Bostom

Here is one on this Catholic Forum website: catholic.com/library/endless_jihad.asp

“My interest in the life of dhimmis (Christians and Jews) under Islam goes back to my childhood. I am an Eastern Christian from the Levant, and I was a dhimmi.” The Intolerable Life of Dhimmis in 19th-Century Damascus by Jacob Thomas.
In view of the historical record, much of which is provided by Muslims themselves and even besides the one provided by Bostom, I am surprised that jihad has its deniers, even among the West. You undoubtedly would find people like that in the Flat Earth Society.
Did I deny jihad?
Yeah, and American Indians attacked the white settlers. So, what?
Hindu violence shares culpability in the conflict with Muslims.
Slavery existed for thousands of years before the first black slave was brought to the Americas. Muslim conquest of India began in the 12th century, long before there was a British Empire, but for some reason all that is wrong with the world, past and present, must be laid at the foot of the European. The wrongs committed by non-Europeans must be excused away by, “Well, ____________________ [fill in evil European culture] did it too.”
I said:

QUOTE=Bezant;7419109]
Notice the British did not cause Muslim-Hindu violence–they exploited tensions existing between the two since, I believe, Mughal Rule.
If we are to judge a society, it must be by a priori objective standards, not by comparing it to another.
Objective cultural standards? Dubious. Set by whom?
Muslims didn’t need any help from the British, as this article by Dr. Radhasyam Brahmachari illustrates.
Well, this is a dubious site that refuses to acknowledge any merit Islam has (it is run by apostates from Islam), and the article is rubbish.

Bezant,

My concerns are essentially this: That the major means of conquest has been jihad. That those conquered, are always viewed as second class citizens, and being a dhimmi is no fun.
I never said it was fun to be a dhimmi. I said it wasn’t always and everywhere a nightmare.
Rambam had it quite good compared to the Jews in Europe at his time, and the Cairo geniza testifies that Jewish Egyptians enjoyed solid relations with the Muslim rulers.
Third, that once Islam has taken root, it is very hard to overcome. And my greatest concern is that Islam has overtaken through bloodshed and conquest our Holy Land…that is the land of the Jews who were expelled against their will…
The last time I checked the State of Israel was the most politically consistent in the region, and that it has historically beaten every Muslim-majority country that attacked it.
Do you wonder why both Jews and Christians have no interest in taking over the Hajj…
No.
…could you imagine the ramifications if there were either attempts to conquer Hajj or destroy it?
‘Hajj’ is the religious pilgrimage to Mecca, not the city itself.
The ancient Jewish artifacts are being destroyed by the Waqf in Jerusalem.
If that allegation is true I would expect it to have more political motivation on the part of the Palestinians than religious.
So every Christian as well has a vested interest in the Holy Land and for our people who are now being expelled after living there for 2,000 years. They are a great historical contribution to our faith.
Christians are not being systematically expelled from Israel or the P.A., and they have never been permanently expelled from the Holy Land.
We are seeing the same now in Iraq and you can’t blame any of it on the British.
I never spoke about Iraq let alone blamed the current situation there on the British.
The blame is on jihad and blood lust and domination. This is not the spirit of true religion.
Ironically the record shows that extremists don’t show any mercy to fellow Muslims.
You ask where I got the 270 million deaths attributed to Islam? I read such allegation a number of years ago, but here is one source:
Code:
The web is broken. The weblink looks hardly academic anyway.
What are the exact numbers, it is hard to say. The KGB have done a great cover-up regarding the millions of those killed in Russia; Mao Tse Tung has his millions.
You were so sure of your numbers killed by jihad.
There will be new information coming to the American public regarding the origins and aims of the Muslim Brotherhood, the modern and contemporary modus of jihad…here is a link with its history…Arafat, the father of terrorism, was the nephew of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood.

And the latest coming out now…www.wnd.?pageId=214245
Do you have any reputable information on the MB that doesn’t smack of conspiracy or Islamophobia?
The common refrain behind a non-Muslim’s back is ‘We Lost Spain’…
By whom?
That looks fair.
About Spain being plundered for 700 years, the source is Monsignor Francis Kelly, “Blood Drenched Altars”. This really a must read for all Catholics to see the great atrocities committed in – Mexico…how Catholic Spain made Mexico the Center for learning for the New World, and women and girls given the right to an education by Bishop Zumarraga…witness to the tilma of Guadalupe…the reason I got the book in the first place…

The book shows how developed Mexico was. Corruption of some clergy was used to instigate the Masonic Revolution based on the French revolution and liberalism and how much destruction and atrocities have been committed against the Church in Mexico and its people, by a very powerful minority.
What does this have to do with Islamic Spain?
I was in Mozambique and heard directly from the natives themselves about the issue of natives being kidnapped and used for slavery…
I don’t deny that.

Did I deny jihad?
Did I say you denied jihad?
Hindu violence shares culpability in the conflict with Muslims.
Wrong. If Muslims had stayed in the Arabian peninsula, there would not have been any Hindu violence against them. What goes around comes around.
Objective cultural standards? Dubious. Set by whom?
I didn’t say “objective cultural standards”; I said, “objective standards.” The answer to “set by whom?” is beyond the Islamic mind because there is no Golden Ruled in Islam.
Well, this is a dubious site that refuses to acknowledge any merit Islam has (it is run by apostates from Islam), and the article is rubbish.
And your response is nothing but an ad hominem. Why don’t you try looking at Islam from the non-Muslim point of view? Take the Crusades, for example. Here is a timeline Summary of Events Leading Up to the Crusades:

1020 – Muslims from Spain sack Narbonne
1095 – The First Crusade.
As the above shows, there were 463 years that elapsed between Mohammed’s death in 632 and the calling of the first Crusade to free lands that had been Christian for 1,000 years and to stop Muslim invasion of Mediterranean Christian countries. What were Muslims doing so far from Arabia? As I said, there wouldn’t have been any “oppression” of Muslims had they stayed in Arabia.

Now, suppose instead of Muslims attacking Christian countries around the Mediterranean, Christian countries were attacking Arabia? I know that is a difficult question because to Islam the normal state of affairs is Islam rules the world, and all debates take off from that as a given. As far as I’m concerned, Islam bears full responsibility for all violence committed against its followers, because, what goes around comes around.
