Yesterday there was a television show about Steve Jobs Arabic roots and how his innovations have contributed to the development of the humans social life around the world, however, during that discussion one of the four guests said “May God have mercy on him”, then a cleric who was also one of the guests replied that it is prohibited to say such thing on infidels and he quoted Quran (9:113):
“It is not fitting, for the Prophet and those who believe, that they should pray for forgiveness for Pagans, even though they be of kin, after it is clear to them that they are companions of the Fire.”

Now that was really ironic and improper to say on live TV at this time when the whole world was showing sympathy and paying tribute, I’m really depressed by how Islam have degraded human beings even after their death…:dts:

May God have mercy on Steve Jobs and mercy on such hard-hearted Muslims. :gopray2:

I am longtime Mac guy…I think Steve would have made a really good Catholic!!!🙂

Before this thread becomes just another excuse for islam-bashing (which I’m happy to do, for the right reasons), does it not occur to people that the muslim who stated as he did may be as representative of islam as th westboro methodist church is of catholicism? They, also, have sent steve jobs to hell (along with just about everybody else!), yet we have no hesitation in repudiating that!

Great post Philial.

I don’t engage in “Muslim-bashing”, I am happy to argue against some of the teachings, or supposed teachings, of the Muslim faith though. I know a couple of Muslims and have read about their religion. I lived in Northen Ireland for a time, so I know a little bit of what it is like to be labeled a supporter of terrorism, simply because you share the same religious faith as those who carry out such acts. I always remember seeing a Muslim whose Hindu girlfriend was killed in the bombings on the London Underground, he was so angry at those who had done such a terrible thing in the name of his religion and spoke of the shame he felt among her family. At one point, he said that those who did this were burning in hell and said that was his only comfort.

The Imam who said that they could not pray for Steve Jobs made the assumption that he was in Hell because he was not a Muslim. From what I’ve read, like Christianity, there are those who use the Q’aran to argue for this belief and those who argue against it.

I wouldn’t want to be judged on the actions and beliefs of the Westboro Baptist Church. Such a twisting of what the Bible actually teaches takes the breath away.

Yeah, Baptist, not Methodist. Thanks, starsmurf 👍 (Iwouldn’t want to get into their bad books now, would I? :D).

No Muslim bashing here either…I just said Steve would have made a good Catholic…not sure why… Just makes a nice picture for me!🙂

This reminds me, I saw an article on CBS saying that Westboro baptist church used an iPhone to send a tweet announcing their plans to picket Steve Jobs’ funeral. Now is that ironic or what.

Really good point made and one often missed on CAF - which is most sad. As Catholics surely we should no better; being the target of the same type of argument.
Reading your posts Sam_777, I have to ask, why are you doing this and what do you hope to achieve? Why not put all your effort into how right Catholicism is and not how wrong Islam is… Otherwise you’ll just sound like a politician 🙂

**I support and double endorse Sam’s post. **

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

He like everyone else here on CAF is entitled to post as long as they don’t break the forum rules.

If you don’t like his thread, then there is no reason for you to reply - besides, Sam’s 2,500+ posts beats your 45.

I wonder what your reply to this would have been is Steve Jobs was a Catholic and the Saudi television said"

He is allowed to make such a post… I never said he wasn’t 🤷
Is there something wrong with it? We’ve covered that, i.e. it is of no benefit.
Is quantity or quality more important? There are now more practicing Muslims in the UK than Catholics… so does that prove Islam is right, or that the UK is a Muslim country?
Slight bit of venom there my friend… and I thought anger was a sin

Weren’t you the one to ask Sam what did he hope to achieve by posting this thread…??

Why bring UK up…??? Sam is not from the UK…

Who said I was angry…?

Questioning why he chose to do this, not questioning his right to
UK has nothing to do with anything  making a point about quantity vs quality
Your use of language suggests a little anger, but yes it is a presumption

Do Muslims even believe that it is proper to pray for the dead?

Perhaps that’s why they also might not pray for him?

And believe me, I’m not sympathetic to Islam.

They do say prayers for their dead - but not for non-muslims.

When Steve Jobs died, many islamic forums on the net were mixed.

While some muslims declared a RIP for Steve Jobs - others said it is against islam to pray and send RIP’s to the “kafur”…

And they too posted the same hadith which Sam posted to remind the muslims that is against islam to do that.

Apologies, then. I would have assumed that Islam would prohibit prayer for the dead because it would conflict with God’s absolute sovereignty. I’m actually surprised that they pray for the dead, but I suppose I should have realized considering they always add the PBUH formula after revered Muslim figures.

Yeah… it’s not quite clear about their ritual.

And I don’t know if they constantly pray for their dead or it’s a one time thing - meaning when the muslim dies.

And all they basicaly say to allah is that he forgives them and to take them to paradise.

Perhaps if Sam returns or some other muslim members on here can clarify.

The “pbuh” is reserved for prophets.

And they do this because they were instructed by their prophet to always say the “peace be upon him” everytime they speak the prophet(s) name(s)

They also use SWT for every time they mention allahs name.

“Subhanahu_wa_ta’ala” - glory to him

I always keep this link on file for reference:

It helps me understand more about islam.
