Hey everyone, i have been on this website studying Islam and i find it quite interesting. My question is, what do us as Catholics, find wrong with Islam?

The Koran says that Jesus was a Prophet of Islam, not Judhaism, and that we [his followers] distorted his word, since we claim him [incorrectly] to be Christ, God, etc.

They claim he never was crucified and killed, but escaped after his scourging/crucifixion (a medical impossibility) and escaped to India where he later died after continuing his work as a Prophet of Allah.

There are many other inconsistencies and impossibilities in their faith, but their basic premise of rejecting Christ for who He is is the fundamental difference between us.

Interesting, I did read this on the website im studying Islam on.

he recitation began one night in the year 610 A.D., when Muhammad, born in Medina in 570, was asleep in Ramadan; a voice from heaven called out to him with the command, “Recite! Recite! Recite!” The angel recited three verses to him and when he awoke he had these verses, as he said, inscribed in his heart. From that point on, Muhammad believed himself to be a prophet and messenger of God, the last in a line of seven prophets (beginning with Abraham and ending with Jesus Christ, who was prophet number six) and responsible for inscribing the last and most important of God’s direct messages to the world, the Arabic Recitation, which is the full name of the work. The people of God, that is, the Jews and the Christians, were going astray; the purpose of the Arabic Recitation was to restore God’s faithful to the proper path

Anything else wrong with Islam?

The Koran was handed down orally for one or two centuries before being recorded (Muhammad was illiterate). So, Muslims today can cite the parts which say to essentially kill the infidels and spread Islam “by the sword,” while the more peaceful ones can cite other passages forbidding harm to women and children, and the joys of peace, etc. Each side can claim the others’ passages of reference are not Allah’s word, but oral traditions added to the actual words of Muhammad.

Most Muslims really admire Jesus “the Prophet,” while the more extremists regard us [Christians] as nothing more than infidels.

The Koran forbids suicide [ironic considering the common method of suicide bombers], but they often get around that in their own mind by seeing their suicides as actual martyrdom, where then can then go straight to Heaven (their concept of Heaven is very sexual for some…I won’t get into it but you can read up on it if you want to).

If you ever have time, you may even want to dive into the Koran. It’s an interesting religion, untrue at best, but its followers are often very peaceful and friendly as we see here in America, where we peacefully (for the most part) live together.

As opposed to Islam, the founder of our catholic faith wasnt a murderer and a pedophile.

Why do you say this/ Do they say Jesus was a murderer and a pedophile?

There is an excellent book written by Daniel Ali (a former muslim) and now a convert to the Catholic Faith and Daniel Spencer called Inside Islam.

I have lent my copy out to a friend, however, I do not recall reading that the Koran was handed down orally. I do recall reading that Muhammed’s cousin was the person who wrote the text. The cousin, who may have been related to Muhammed through his wife, had been a Catholic priest.

There are many similarities between Islam and Christianity. One of the biggest similarities is that there are two persons who were sinless…Jesus and Our Blessed Mother, Mary. Followers of Islam hold both of them in high esteem.

The Koran directs any questions about it to be checked out in the bible…which I find rather interesting!

Muhammed married his son’s wife and Muhammed also practiced polygamy. Muhammed was a warrior and I think that the person who wrote that he was a pedophile as well as a murderer may have had this in mind when writing.

Like all religions, there are some who will hijack it for their own means…fanatics. Almost all of the followers of Islam that I have met (twelve years in Afghanistan) were peaceful. I have never met a hatefilled follower of Islam. Having written that, I know that there are some.

Let us pray to the woman who unites us, Our Blessed Mother and ask for her intercession for peace through out the world!

God Bless

Wow, so if it wasn’t for a Catholic Priest, Islam wouldn’t have exisited, well thats another reason for protestants hate us.

But i find it amazing that they believe Mary was Sinless! It is amazing to me that Islam see’s this, but not Protestants. Wow.

Ok new question, how does the Catholic Church see
Muhammad (sp?)

To defend the faith against Islam, you can go to:

answering-islam.org/

(don’t go to .com or .net - those are not good sites, one is pro-Islam and the other one is not relevant to Islam anyway)

The .org site is a protestant site, but is still pretty good. I like the one about the “satanic verses” in the Qu’ran.

I do not see how you jumped from Muhammed’s cousin being a Catholic priest to the fact that Islam would not have existed if it were not for his cousin. Nor how you came to the conclusion that that is why protestants hate us.

I recommend that you go to the link that was given to you to better understand Islam.

Im sorry, did i missunderstand something, sorry a stupid 15 year old here, but did you not say this?

I just said that to joke around, because where im from, many Protestants and Catholics are hostile towards Muslims, and people who practice Islam? im sorry if i said something wrong, opps… is it because i said if it wasn’t for a Catholic Priest, islam Wouldn’t exist, well my bad, i know Islam would be around even if it wasn’t for whoever wrote the text.

When people are hostile towards those who follow Islam, that is a problem. What you wrote to my response was something that you garnered and had no basis to it. From my perspective, you were attempting to make something of my post that was not there.

God Bless -

Don’t give it a second thought! We are all learning…and I have much to learn! God Bless

This was what was meant:
Among his more famous wives were 'Aisha, who was less than ten years old when he married her, and Zaynab, the former wife of Mohammed’s adobted son, Zayd. (When Zayd saw that Mohammed desired Zaynab, he divorced her to make way for his adopted father to have her, a union that God supposedly endored in a revelation to Mohammed.) Islam “A Catholic Perspective”, by Catholic Answers
The Qur’an does not speak the truth; therefore it cannot be the word of God. The Qur’an calls Jesus a prophet. How can that be said when no prophet ever claimed to be “I AM”. You have to believe that Jesus was one of three things: The Word made flesh, a lying cad or a lunatic. No one in their right mind during circa 30 A.D. would claim to be God, unless they were.

In Christ,
Hans

Islam, as the great Catholic historian has documented in his book, “The great heresies” is largely a result of the Arian heresy, a heresy that reached its peak in the 4th century AD, and the arian follwers were pushed to the edges of the middle east, on the Arabian Pennesula. A breif description of the arian heresy was the denial of the divinity of Christ, and of course Islam clearly does that, saying he was a prophet, and not the son of God. The Christians that Mohammed had contact with were Nestorians who had been influenced by the arian heresy.

To bring this to modern day, what Mohammed did in writing the Koran is what Joseph Smith did in writing the book of Mormon, they both took parts of the bible and added their own nonsense, and in fact, Mormonism and Islam are very similar to each other.

That angel must not be from God who spoke to Muhammad. If that angel is from the Lord, then it will reaffirm the Christian faith and not teach another gospel denying Christ.

I think that the same being that spoke to Muhammed also spoke to Joseph Smith, and it’s not Gabriel.

J warned us that ‘false prophets will arise and deceive many’ after He left. as you note in a later post, mohammed called himself a prophet in the line of Christ. then he said things different than J, which would qualify him as ‘false’.

too bad this was mis-understood, i laughed.

one thing mohammed brought up, and peter tosh also noted, about christians which is absolutly deserving of attention, is that while we proclaim a readiness and willingness to die for the One who died for us, many of us seem more ready to kill than die. mo wrote in like 600 ad, so this seems to have been one of the vagaries in the christian faithful for quite some time. (course, this thought might be worthy of its own thread.) anywho,

thanks for listening, love and peace, terry

Funky Cedars - Terry…I am not familiar with what you wrote. Would you please explain it to me? Who is Daddy? Mom? His child?

Thank you - God Bless
