Is it true that the Islamic teaching that Mohammad being the final prophet means that humans will hear nothing further from God in this world? I am trying to ascertain whether this is a message of Islam. I have never heard that they believe in something like the Holy Spirit, so without a prophet there would be no communication with God. Is that right? So the Koran would contain the final messages for earthly humanity, forever, according to Islam? If this is correct, then would it be logical to say that anything new, done or taught, by Islamic people, after the Koran was written, cannot have been commanded by God himself. For ever?

Mohammed is seen as the seal of prophets, the last of a line of prophets like jesus, noah, etc. in islamic teaching. Some islamic denominations do have prophets after him (the ahmadiyya muslim janaat for example has another prophet) but many other muslim denominations don´t see them as muslims for this reason.
In the islamic teaching, communication with god is possible through prayer and godly intervention in dreams, visions, etc - like in the christian faith. A holy spirit as entity is not known, but angels who are sent through god´s will and spirit, for example in the story of mary´s conception.
The qur´an is like the bible for muslims unchanging, but exegetic work is seen as fine and therefore, it´s not “sola scriptura”, as a christian would call it. There are the hadith, the sayings of the prophet mohammed and his life, that are a guideline together with the qur´an.

Islam is a false religion, so why even give any thought to what it says in the Koran? It doesn’t matter and as Catholics we shouldn’t be giving it any attention.

There is also the tradition of the Hadith which are the sayings and activities of Muhammad and his companions. The carry a lot of weight in how people live, interpretation of Quran and in Islamic law, particularly family law. It isn’t God speaking but it is in some ways comparable to Sacred Tradition.

I think you’d be better off asking this question in this other thread, where a competent and courageous muslim has been explaining her religion for those who are interested.

I think there’s no need to be this condemnatory of a valid question. Note that the forum guidelines require Catholics to be “charitable in their discussions about non-Catholic belief and practice”, and note also that this question was raised in the correct category: Non-Catholic Religions.

Muhammad is called “khatam an-nabiyyin” or seal of the (nabi) prophets. The Qur’an distinguishes between “rasul (plural rusul)” and “nabi (pl nabiyyin”. The Rusul are prophets like Muhammad, Jesus, Moses, Abraham. The Nabiyyin included Aaron, the brother of Moses (Harun), and others. So the seal of the prophets “khatam an-nabiyyin” does leave open the possibility that there might be further “rusul” or major prophets.

This is one argument advanced by Baha’s as to how their prophets are valid and not excluded by the Quranic verse.

The Qur’an was the final revelation of God, but that wasn’t the end of everything. The collection of Hadiths, which are their oral traditions, were not compiled until long after Muhammad died (by guys like Imam Bukhari, Imam Muslim, etc). However, the Hadith collections are fallible because they were narrated and compiled by fallible men and women.

Again, I am not sure that in the Qur’an it is stated that it is the final revelation from God. And, in any case the ahadith are not newer than the Qur’an. In fact, I do not believe it is stated that the Qur’an is the final revelation. Muhamman is referred to as khatam an-nabiyyin, but not, pointedly khatam ar-rusul.

I think you do not apprehend yourself religion properly!. As people of book(revelation) you should not be so oblivious. You have a guide(Jesus) from God (even you regard Him as God!) who advice you to be polite. I think I regard Jesus more than any Christian.

It is safe to say that Muslims believe that the Islamic prophet Muhammad is their first and last prophet who received divine revelation (Koran) from an Angel of God. To become Muslim, a Muslim must believe Muhammad to be the last prophet from God and to submit (Islam) to Muhammad’s Koranic teachings.
Islam does not come into history until the seventh century after Jesus Christ was crucified, died, buried and resurrected from the dead. Islam being so far from the eye witness accounts of the historical recorded crucifixion of Jesus Christ, deny that Jesus was ever crucified among many other Christian historical contradictions recorded in the Koran.
St.Paul who received divine revelations from the resurrected Jesus Christ in the first century recorded this from the bible; Galatians 1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!
Islam preaches a different gospel = truth today, other than the one Jesus revealed to eyewitnesses in the first century.
In summary, Catholicism professes that divine revelation ceased with the last Apostle John, and that the full deposit of the Apostolic faith comes to us through the canonized Sacred Scriptures, Sacred Apostolic Tradition and Magisterium. The difference between Islam and Catholicism is that in Catholicism we have the guarantee of divine revelation and apostolic faith from the Holy Spirit. While Islam having diverse traditions and interpretations of the Koran rely on their Imams or religious leaders to lead Muslims according their interpretations of the Koran or Muhammad’s divine revelation.
Peace be with you

285- The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.” Al-Baqarah(2)

All prophets before Muhammad including Jesus are also prophets of Islam.

Quran says the fact because Quran is directly words of God. There is no need for an evidence. Yet there is no any statement in Bible which state that Jesus was crucified.

sure there is and we know it is true because the gospel was sent down by Allah
He has sent down upon you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Gospel. (3:3)
The Crucifixion of Jesus
32 As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross. 33 They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). 34 There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. 35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. 36 And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. 37 Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.

38 Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. (Mathew 27)

Mark 15:24
Someone was crucified who looked like Jesus. People in that times thought that he was Jesus. Gospels are not direct revelation from God. Writers conveyed life of Jesus. Even though there are some direct words from Jesus and a prophet do not talk from himself. Jesus was taught by God(Father) and Jesus stated that fact frequently. I mean all sentences in Bible cannot be regarded directly revelation. But all words in Quran are directly from God. If someone wonder can research and he will see that.
