Islam's black stone

I heard that it comes from the pre-Islamic belief in worship of the moon god and that Mohammed couldn’t get his newly converted Islamists to do away with that belief and so incorporated their current practice of veneration of the meteor into part of the Islamic ritual. This is what I’ve heard, but I’d be interested to find out what current Islamics believe regarding this. Look forward to their posts.

That is one theory; however, many Muslims dispute this claim. Maulana Muhammad Ali (an Ahmadi) in his book, “The Religion of Islam,” disputes this claim and says that the stone was never worshipped in pre-Islamic Arabia. He contends that no one knows how long it has been there, but since Muslims believe the Ka’aba dates from the Prophet Abraham, that it must have been there since then. He says that Muslims would not have kissed something that they knew to be a pagan idol…I am curious when that black covering was put over the Ka’aba and when the last person set foot inside…

No. It is quite an appropriate. word. This is the meaning of the ite ending added to a word.
