Hello, I’m new to Catholic Answers.

During a retreat this past weekend with six Catholic couples someone asked why we, as Catholics, eat fish on Friday during Lent.
We all understood the meaning of fasting, abstinence, and understand the usefulness of them. We understand that long ago, we fasted on Fridays, then we abstained from meat. What we don’t understand is why it’s ok to eat fish.
Isn’t fish considered a meat too? What about other seafood?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Gerald
