Isn't the spirit of Lent lost in this instance?

During the Lenten fast. Is the spirit of the fast kept if we go to a restraunt and feast on fish and seafood (really enjoy a great meal!) To me the spirit of fasting is kind of lost when you refrain from meat and switch to some thing you reallly enjoy. What do you think, Joseph

Hi,

I agree; the whole point of Lenten observance is to be attentive to how much the Lord put us before Himself. Abstaining from meat ought to be done in a spirit of sacrifice–and not on how little self denial we can get away with.
