At the Easter Vigil Mass durring the renewal of Baptismal Promises it was said “…and promised to serve God in the universal Catholic Church…” instead of “…in the holy Catholic Church” was it ok for the celebrant to have said the former?

Worrying about minute things like this is likely a waste of time. Yes, it’s discouraged to deviate from the prayers written at all as I understand it. But have you considered that priests are human and sometimes misspeak?

At that point in the Vigil Mass – given all the unique elements that had already occurred in the Mass – I think you might consider giving him a break.

If it wasn’t said correctly, then it can be chalked up to human error. Your branch of Mother Church should be fine.

You know what? I misread the original post. My apologies. I thought the OP said that the priest left out the word “Catholic”. I am sorry and retract my statement.

The rubrics before this beginning part of The Renewal of Baptismal Promises includes, in n. 55:

“The Priest addresses the faithful in these or similar words:”

So a slight change like these seems to be a reasonable change that the Priest is permitted to make.
