If it truly “didn’t matter” then you wouldn’t be arguing with the OP over this point. If race doesn’t matter, then things like this shouldn’t even be a problem.

Like what the poster said…research has found that it’s extremely beneficial for children to see themselves being represented to have a healthy identity. Your anger here is a little weird. If we all simply go with whatever we have and simply ignore the issue of race, society wouldn’t have made great accomplishments in reducing racism…It shouldn’t matter what ethnicity the characters are. If you want children to see past race, then stop putting so much emphasis on things like “diversity” and just go with whatever you have. Yes, yes, yes! Race is not a dirty word! The goal is not to pretend that everyone is White, or for White people to “tolerate” People of Color as if they were White, implying that there is something normative and good about being White but not about being non-White!Are you serious? Of course a person’s race matters! It’s part of their identity! It effect their family, their history, and their culture. You honestly can’t put yourself into the shoes of someone who isn’t white, and how it must feel if every book they read in school is only about white kids? People of other races have a story to tell as well. Their color isn’t something that should be treated as a deviation from “normal” that must be “seen past” as if every black child is hiding a “normal” child inside if we just look hard enough. Diversity is a good thing and every child benefits from it.
Yes. We have a large tapestry of the Black Madonna at home, which is quite strange, (that she’s called “Black”, not that we have itLike what the poster said…research has found that it’s extremely beneficial for children to see themselves being represented to have a healthy identity. To the OP: I can’t think of any books. I had the same problem when I was younger. But if it helps, my mom did show me various depictions of our lady in different cultures
