Here’s an interesting talk on the issue by Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of Galilee, Elias Chacour, on this issue and broader relationships in the Middle East: youtube.com/watch?v=saCTo2b5GzQ

I agree with the good archbishop. (As you can see by the comments, I have been posting this video here on CAF for a long time now. :))

. . . He accused . . . of “not contributing positively to society as they don’t work, they marry have 11children, they receive tax exemptions and working Israelis pay for them” in his exact words. His wife disagreed with him and we did not know what to say as we are ignorant to the situation there.
LOL!

Supposing your story to be true (no offense, but it is the internet after all) this sounds almost verbatim like the same thing Anglo-Canadians (or English Canadians) used to say of French Canadians (a veiled way sometimes of expressing anti-Catholic sentiments) back before the '60s!

No offence taken. Did you have anything constructive to contribute? I don’t really care what issues the English and French Canadians have with each other, if I did I would’ve posted a thread on it.

No offense, but I care about the Canadian English and the French Quebecers, they are all God’s children too.

This thread is not about Canadians it’s about Israel and Palestine. I was responding to another poster. Start another thread if you want to talk about Canadians who I agree are Gods children as well.

I support Israel. The de facto government in Palestine is Hamas which is a terrorist organization. They can’t expect to fire missiles into Israel without Israel rightfully defending themselves.

I think interest in Isreal & Palestine can fall into the sensationalism of the end times etc, not a genuine concern for the people there. Isreal is a part of the world, so is Canada. If you don’t care about one part of the world how can a person know you sincerely care about whats going on in another part of the world?

Please, please Holly remember that 99% of Palestinians have no choice about who rules their non-existent-what-do-we-call-it-country or runs the show. There is no one on earth -except for the people who belong to organizations like Hamas- who think or believe that what Hamas is doing is a good thing.

Regardless, it will be the Palestinian people -not only men, but the women and children- who will suffer for the actions of radicals; and they already do suffer. They have no economy to speak of. It is not very surprising that so many young people become radicalized when they have no employment and no hope for a future or cannot possibly look after their families. Even in the West such conditions produce extremely troubled and disgruntled youth-- even we can produce a Marshal Mathers (Eminem); however, he at least found something remotely like a healthy outlet for his frustrations. Moreover, the difference is, here, we have the ability to strongly police and easily squash anything like a political uprising. In Palestine, they are extremely limited in their ability and capacity to do this: for many, it must feel like you are the prison guards of your own people, people that you know are desperate and consequently angry.

Am I saying or arguing that the Palestinian people are immaculate or impeccable? Of course not! Still, they are just as human as we are and susceptible to the same temptations-- temptations that become worse when conditons become extreme or desperate, which they certainly are in Gaza most of the time.

I’m sorry I thought I started this thread about Israel and Palestine, did I not write that at the top under Title? Not Canada. Like I said, if you want to discuss Canada, start a thread and I’ll chime in but I started this thread to discuss Israel and Palestine. Please stick to the topic.
