Here is a handy word to ponder when your tongue wants to run free…Especially when at work!

T - True? Is what I am going to say true? Or is it only my opinion?

H - Honest? Am I being honest or only trying to manipulate a situation to my favor?

I - Intelligent? Have I used my intellect or am I running off my own emotions, because feelings aren’t facts.

N - Necessary? (This is my challenge) Am I going to lift someone up or tear them down with my words? How important is it?

K - Kind? Am I saying this to hurt the other person or am I truly saying it kindly? Is there any other way to say it, so that I don’t come off as a jerk or a know-it-all?

Say what you mean, mean what you say, but don’t say it mean.

Does it need to be said?
Does it need to be said NOW?
Does it need to be said BY ME?

Just a few things to keep handy.

Excellent! 👍

Learn manners. You’re not really smarter than anyone else. 😉
I spent time around people who really were smarter than everyone else (Nobel Prize winners), and although there was a certain leeway given for ego-to-talent ratio, they didn’t enjoy those who are too full of themselves, either. Rather, the smarter you are, the more you value discretion.

God gives you smart, and it is easy for anyone to have a big mouth. What is hard is to be smart and yet wise enough to hold your tongue until something needs to be said.

Where words are many, sin is not wanting; but he who restrains his lips does well. Prov. 10:19

Okay, let’s get past the “sherlock” post.

One thing to keep in mind is that humor rarely translates well into text. So skip humor or sarcasm in any email, texts or voice mail. (And if you are not good at reading your audience, then skip it in any communication)

Could you post some examples of things that you felt were “phony” or double-standards that you felt you handled poorly. What have you not “masked your views”?

If you could give us some examples of what you are actually dealing with, it will be helpful for giving better advice.

Also, tell us a bit about your boss. How old is she? Is she sarcastic? What is she like. When you say she “boast how smart I am” - is this her attempt at humor - or is it serious?

Advice: Don’t respond like this to your boss. Being a grown up means not saying what you FEEL like saying.
Agreed. If I said what I some times felt like saying I would probably be led from work in handcuffs. :slapfight:

As stated earlier getting fired once or twice will help you rein in what you see as an opinionated personality that is somewhat stern and passionate. Most other people probably see it as being outspoken, crabby and immature.

When I was in school there was a cafeteria style restaurant called “University Cafeteria”.

You went through a line and the person behind the counter would always say: “Serve you?” as a way of asking which vegetable, or course, you wanted to be served on your plate.

I try to remember these words “Serve you?” That means I try and remember to focus on where I can be of service. Then issues like “who is right” become irrelevant. It only matters where I can make a difference.

You are only a “service” to your boss when you help him / her out. Agreeing with the boss, or disagreeing, may or may not be a service. Making the boss look good, and solving problems for the boss is a “service”.

Also, I try and read a chapter of Proverbs daily to help gain insight and come closer to Wisdom.

I hope this helps.
