Issues other than abortion

Though I do not mean to minimize the issue of abortion, I would like to say that there are other issues of importance in the USA.
Poverty, physical abuse, drug and other substance abuse, corruption, and so many other things.
I would like to see my brother and sister Catholics address these issues.
We can be concerned and focused on more than on issue at a time.

$21 trillion of Govt spending over 50 years and poverty rate increased from 27% in 1967 to 29% in 2012 (Forbes)

So Govt should not treat poverty. Not Govt job and they’re terrible at it. Republicans (like abortion) are correct - let private charities deal w poverty. Much more efficient and less wasteful than Govt and people contribute far more when their taxes are reduced (when failing Govt programs eliminated).

I agree, but look through this forum. Abortion, abortion, abortion. Yes, abortion is important, but not much is spoken of the other issues.

People come here to learn how to articulate cogent arguments against abortion, because the “pro-choice” voice is so loud in the public square and has such heavy financial and political backing.

People don’t come here for advice on how to articulate their position on poverty, physical abuse, drug and other substance abuse, and corruption arguments because there are no large swaths of people in the public square arguing they are moral and social goods.

People don’t come here to seek solace from fellow believers on poverty, physical abuse, drug and other substance abuse, corruption, and so many other things because the world is not calling these things “good”. The world is not saying we should have more of these things. The world is not demanding these things be enshrined in law.

Yes, we need to work to eliminate these things—
and all the Catholic Churches I know are working on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy in these areas, and often with others.

Abortion remains uniquely positioned in the US as something good. That is why we must speak out against it continually. That is why you see things posted here.
 
Violence against children. Violence against women. Violence in general is a big thing. But there does not seem to be as much moral outrage.

Because again, no one is calling those things a moral good.

We can be concerned about other issues nothing wrong with that. But there is nothing is more threatening to our citizens than the murder of the unborn.

What do you do?

You need to approach these things with the virtues of wisdom and prudence. Not all issues are of the equal gravity. Some call for immediate and decisive action. The tidal wave of abortions is a heinous crime against humanity, and “your brother’s blood cries out from the ground.” So it should be talked about. When people look the other way, we are in trouble.

Remaining silent is a luxury, and Christianity is not about wallowing in luxury.

I disagree. There are many issues that are important.
Politicians are good at using issues like abortion to divide us. While people will debate choice vs. life, they can’t divide on an important issue like violence. Everyone is against violence.

And that’s precisely why this forum tends to talk about abortion more, especially when abortion is in the news. You’ll find topics here vary with current events. When Trump was elected there was a lot of talk about immigration and the morality of building a wall. When welfare or assistance programs are making headlines, that tends to be the major topic. But, I digress.

Many people here are in a situation like mine - they are living in a area without a lot of Catholics and many of the people they interact with on a daily basis are right along with the majority of New York: applauding infanticide. People come here to find like-minded individuals and not feel alone. If I started a post about the evils of child abuse, violence, etc, there wouldn’t be a lot of discussion. Just 12 or so posts of “I agree, what’s your point?” and then it’d die.
 
What does that mean?

Laws already exist for the other crimes you mention.

It is better for one to choose to use drugs than to choose to kill an unbaptized person with no right to defend her/himself.

Are you a segment of the deepstate that uses secret societies to address the issues you are bringing up?

Do you not know that prejudicial secret societies like Mustang Clubs, Kiwanis, etc… exist to address such matters? Have you bought one of their raffle tickets lately?

I think most of us here are more interested in salvation of souls and religion and not so much armchair perverted law enforcement.

Most people would not have responded to my thread, but I put abortion in it.
So for just a bit they have mentioned violence, health care, and substance abuse.

Maybe because abortion issue seems to have a simple solution. (Just don’t do it.)
Poverty, physical abuse, drug and other substance abuse, corruption seems more complex.

Have you thought about legitimeate Law Enforcement as a career to help?

Have you tried preaching the Gospel to help? The Gospel is that Jesus can help those who can’t help themselves. Jesus has power over Satan; we don’t.
