Agreed. Those polls are useless until they control for devotion - i.e. church involvement, personal time set aside for prayer and Scripture, etc. Al Capone identified as Catholic.

Abortion is government funded through state expansions to Medicaid. So your target is your own state government rather than the federal government.

And may well have been more Catholic than those who voted for abortion on demand – after every big score that Capone made, some Catholic parish/school/charity in the Chicago area would have a big anonymous gift made to it, and his gravestone reads ‘My Jesus, Mercy’… I don’t know if some of these pro-abortion CINO’s (Catholics In Name Only) would even ask for mercy…

Most people I know are not practicing Catholics and are in favour of legalized abortion. But none of them would see it as a “good thing”. At best, as a necessary evil, a last resort. I don’t agree with them of course, it is always evil and never “necessary”.
But I do think if we are to get through to pro-choice people, we have to stop demonizing them. We also have to consider the culpability of a woman undergoing an abortion. Many, in fact, are still girls and are victims of sexual abuse, violent boyfriends, or parental pressure to save the family “honour”.
It’s a much more complex issue than many here make it out to be, and dialogue is only possible if we treat the other side with respect. That doesn’t mean agreeing with them nor should we give up on the legislative front, but there are many complex social issues that need to be addressed if we are to go beyond just making abortion illegal to actually reducing the rate of abortions.
And the OP does have a point in that many of the social problems (s)he lists are direct or indirect contributors to the abortion crisis, and all, the abortion crisis included, are often fuelled by the de-churching of Western society.

Catholic Charities and Catholic Social Services both run programs for immigration/asylum/refugee resettlement, parenting classes, mental health, adoption, financial coaching, housing access . . .
I have seen individual parishes run food closets, mobile medical and dental services, soup kitchens, environmental clubs, and prison ministries . . . to name a few.
So I’m sure people will understand how the accusation that Catholics “don’t care about born people” not just tiresome, but inflammatorily false.
