Pax vobiscum!

Any Terry Goodkind fans in here? If there are, I’m sure you will agree with me when I say that this recent vote is quite reminiscent of the vote in Anderith at the end of Soul of the Fire.

In Christ,
Rand

Well, like the OP said, the parents will not need to be notified if the kid goes off to get an abortion during the school day. But, she’ll need a note from home if she wants an aspirin from the school nurse.

Also in California, minors can’t use a tanning booth without parental consent! 😦

I don’t really know what to make of the pro-life movement now. I don’t think the failure of these initiatives can be traced back to one specific thing. But it’s been my opinion for a while that we don’t utilize the political system and the idealism of the youth enough - I think we should model ourselves after the democratic non-profits and the environmental orgs.

One thing for sure - the Churches aren’t doing enough to educate people about a well-rounded pro-life stance, as so many Christians are for contraception, IVF, embryonic stem-cell research, that we seem to be doing ourselves in.

Really makes me think that Jesus knew what He was talking about when He wanted us all to be one body. 😉

We live in a crazy world, dont forget that law where if a pregnant woman gets attacked and the child dies then that is considered as murder of the child, however if its an abortion the child doesnt exist for some reason.

People talk of reaching the “hearts and minds” of the swing voters, or the people we want to understand what is really going on with abortion. Am I the only one that thinks the pro-abortion side knows this and actually puts it into practice better than us? I mean, look at their tactics they use to sway people to see their views… lots of feel good words and many words/phrases that appeal to the selfish sense of being. This society is so ingrained to believe in numero uno (them selves) that they forget that their actions do effect others. Pro-aborts push that the “choice” should only be the mothers’ because it’s “her body.” How can you get her to understand that it’s a child when the pro-abortion side has her already thinking selfishly? We are a selfish being by nature, it’s rising above that and standing on solid moral footing that will win this problem out.

I am beyond disgusted by the elections. I am so sick of reading (on other boards) the gloating of the pro-aborts, anti-war, anti-military bashing that has been going on. It makes me so sick.

I sincerely hope that we are able to fix most of this with the next presidential election and pray that Hillary hasn’t been lying to the public all this time with her saying she’s not running. Because if she runs, I fear that practically all hope will be lost for our country and we can kiss alot of our efforts good bye.

The pro-abortion movement has been very pragmatic in its operations. Recall that NARAL originally stood for “National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws.” Later it became the National Abortion Rights Action League. Now it is just NARAL Pro-Choice America; the name changes reflect its successes.

Pro-abortionists originally could have worked for the repeal of State abortion laws. But, not having the degree of success they wished in that venue, they sought and found, or rather constructed, a court case to take to a friendly US Supreme Court—Roe v Wade. Norma McCorvey was merely a pawn in this game.

Even in the recent South Dakota abortion law, the pro-abortion side could have elected to simply appeal the existing law (which had already passed the legislature) to the federal courts, and ultimately the supreme court. But they judged that the referendum route had a better chance of success, and that is the way they went.

The pro-abortion industry is nothing if not pragmatic.

There is no inherent necessity for Democrats to be pro-abortion, although it seems that way since the pro-aborts began to take over the party. (Actually the radical wing of the party began the takeover in 1968.)

Generations of Democrats from FDR to JFK did not express any pro-abortion proclivities, nor did the party platform. Perhaps it’s time for pro-life Democrats to take the party back. There’s no reason why both parties should not have pro-life contingents, or hopefully, pro-life majorities. Why should any Democrat not want to be seen as being in favor of protecting the most helpless among us?

I think our strategy now has to be small steps. I thought the really small step in CA would be a good place to start - mandatory waiting period + parental notification. Maybe we need to start even smaller with just a mandatory waiting period.

I do think the pro-life movement needs some better organizing…and better donations. The pro-death movement is much better organized and has much more money put into this stuff.

You’re right. The people decided and voted for the wrong politicians.
Too many Catholics put their politics before their faith. Now that both houses of Congress are firmly in control of the abortionists I am aghast to see so many Catholics taking joy in this. Much of the blame lies with the American Catholic Church for not emphasizing enough that we cannot support a candidate or a party that supports the killing of our children. Too many of our bishops have likewise put a lifetime affinity for the Democratic Party ahead of our children.

You told me the GOP would retain control of both houses… What happened?

If the pro-life cause is going to make any progress, we need a new strategy. I was an advocate of legislating morality for a long time (hey, it worked with slavery), but that method of attack appears to be infeasible at this point.

The “hearts and minds” approach, where we try to change people’s views on abortion, would seem to be the way to go at first glance. However, most people (I’d say 98% of the people) have no interest in hearing more debates and propaganda about abortion and will simply tune it out.

Personally, I think the pro-life movement is a lost cause for now.
This has been my thinking for a long time :yup: . I think the approach to date has been in the negative and by the look of things it does not work.
I once saw…please do not ask me where…a campaign of extremely postive ads…geared to the beauty of new life and in the town where these ads were used to get the message out **the abortion rate decreased considerably. **
One ad showed a university aged women jogging on a spring day when everything was bursting with new life and as she was running all the down thoughts of having the baby she was carrying were going through her mind…in the next scene
she appeared as a middle aged women standing in the doorway of her home waving to a beautiful young women (who looked to be the age and likeness of the earlier girl ) going off to school and this depicted a scene of love and family life.
It was beautifully put together and it is my belief that if the message goes out in a spiritually loving and positive way it will do much more good. Aim the ads for the young who are still very open.
Move it from the head to the heart **in expression. **There are creative people out there to do this and than start with the TV ads.

God never asked us to win; only to struggle. It is to develop our spiritual strength. He"ll take care of the winning when the time comes.

1 Maccabees 9:7-11
As Judas saw that his army was melting away just when the battle was imminent, he was panic-stricken, because he had no time to gather them together. 8 But in spite of his discouragement, he said to those who remained: “Let us go forward to meet our enemies; perhaps we can put up a good fight against them.” 9 They tried to dissuade him, saying: “We certainly cannot. Let us save our lives now, and come back with our kinsmen, and then fight against them. Now we are too few.” 10 But Judas said: “Far be it from me to do such a thing as to flee from them! If our time has come, let us die bravely for our kinsmen and not leave a stain upon our glory!”

Yes, when our civilization has run its course and collapses, it will be the decendants of the pro-life movement who will re-build. We’re the ones having more children. 🙂 Or at least, we ought to be…

Well it does appear that liberals are aborting themselves into extinction
