Last sections of the Missal all approved, now we wait for the recognitio (and resolution of the question over the antiphons).

Soooooo exciting to watch!!! History in the making!! I am really looking forward to the new liturgy.

There is still the issue of the priests facing ad-orientum vs the people, altar girls, and the abuse of the EMHC, and sacred music like Gregorian Chant having pride of place, that need to be resolved. Don’t get to excited yet. It is hardly finished.

All of these are addressable on the local level, and many will not be addressed higher before there is clear evidence of the desire for them in the parishes (work with your priests). Liturgia semper reformanda (to abuse the phrase).

Bishop Trautman’s question on the antiphons has been resolved, de facto accepting the grey book.

There is a wet blanket in every bunch.

This is a massive step in the process. And for that I am grateful.

None of this has anything to do with the missal itself; as stated earlier, it can/will be addressed at the local level.

re: thread title “It is finished” … so that’s the “it” Jesus was referring to in John 19:30! 😃

Ah, but, even though the wheels of Rome grind slowly, they grind finely. The CDWDS is already working on a document to address many of these issues. They finalized the work this past Spring and the piece is now awaiting the Holy Father’s approval.

I hope each diocese is hyper-careful in how they introduce the new missal in terms of communications and training. This gift could turn out to be a horrible mess it’s not done with great care or if it’s done in a malicious manner.

Or thoroughly and with no toleration of dissent.

Some good strong letters from the bishop stating that after such and such a date, all further Masses will be said using the words as written, with the rubrics as published, would be very nice 🙂

Perhaps it will come with the new translation? (Well, we can hope)

As they said on the floor now is the time to begin the process of catechesis, the USCCB is actually ahead of the game with their Roman Missal site. Ask your parish priests and bishops how you can help.

It’s not about strong letters and no toleration of dissent.

It’s about communication and teaching.

Now, it is about catechesis. When the time for the implementation comes, then is the time for strong letters to preclude dissent.

I recommend the resource in my signature… not only because I wrote it, but because it is (to my knowledge) the only published resource out there right now. It will be followed by a second volume on the prayers of the priest around June of next year (and a second edition of the first book too).

I also recommend Japhy’s book. It’s excellent, and I’m trying to talk my parish’s CEP director into buying a couple dozen or more to assist with our catechesis 🙂

I second that. Now that the translations have finally moved on up to Rome, I can go full throttle with what we are trying to do at the diocesan level. Japhy’s book is an excellent starting point.
