Just so some of those here know, this practice of naming your guardian angel is forbidden and discouraged by the church. I only mention it because I care about people, and talk aobut exposing yourself to the devil:

When you “name” an angel, you give it a preconceived identity. Demons KNOW what that identity is and mirror it to get you to turn away from God. Don’t be deceived.

“Popular devotion to the holy angels, which is legitimate and good, can, however, also give rise to possible deviations . . . ***[such as the] practice of assigning names to the holy angels [which] should be discouraged, ***except in the cases of Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael whose names are contained in Holy Scripture” (Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy 217)"

Oh, calm down. It is not “FORBIDDEN”; it “should be discouraged.” Your demonic possession theory makes no sense.

I’d be surprised if anyone found a Chuch directive forbidding one naming angels. Our guardian angels have already got names. The angels are not out pets, don’t forget they are superior to us in the spiritual scheme of things.

There is a big difference between “forbidden” and “discouraged”.

I can believe the practice of naming one’s angel is discouraged, because they are superior to us. We do not name our bosses.

But I’d like to see documentation before I get too hung up about this. Devotion to angels is, after all, a devotional practice.

Since the Church is against the naming of Guardian Angels…let me ask: Is it ok to ask what his name is???

I understand what you’re saying. Angels don’t need to be named as if they were pets that need to hear us call. They are always with us.

NO, you should not seek to find the name of your guardian angel: It is throught his means that people have been led into spiritual delusion, they have been deceived by false and lying spirits, and some have become possesed and altogether lost their sanity.

Demonic possesion DOES make sense, because, you see, to NAME something is to give it a SPECIFIC identity.

Any demon can impersonate a specific identity, but if you refer to “your guardian angel” it is much more general, and he knows who he is, due to your intention.

But if some deluded person were to SEEK after the NAME of their angel, then any spirit could reveal that name as their own, the person begins to call on that angel by name, and eventually, after time, the deceiving spirit begins to lead them astray. Excuse me if I sound hysterical, I do not mean to, but in my experience, Catholics really don’t take the devil very seriously, in terms of his everyday involvement in our lives. We must be watchful and on guard “For the enemy roams about like a lion seeking to devour who he may.”

Be gentle as doves, but shrewd as serpents, taking care that no man deceive you. 🙂

BUt don’t focus on all the ways the devil will try to deceive you, just close as many doors as possible.

NEVER Believe an angel revealing a name to you. It is not a good angel under ANY circumstance.

i have heard that God has already named the angels. Not for us to try to rename them.

Are there any examples of Saints who knew the name of their guardian angel??

So the Saints who knew the names of their guardian angels were deceived?

I am not sure why evil gets so much press. Several years back I had a friend (Catholic) who followed a group to Conyers Georgia to hear the words of a woman…(not sure what she was spouting off about)…but anywhooo…she came back with a video of the “sun dancing” and stories of rosaries turning to gold. Okaaaayyyyy…I smiled and listened and was wondering when the men the white coats would be pulling in the drive.

She told me that she knows a woman in Missouri that speaks to angels and if I give her (my friend) my name and address and in a few weeks I would receive a letter giving me the name of my angel.

I received a letter a few weeks later. I was told that my angel’s name was Daniel. I had a feeling my angel would be male…which was cool.

then flash forward to this thread…and now I am told it is forbidden to have an angel named. Hmmm…someone needs to tell the woman in Missouri to stop sending letters.

Bottom line is…
  1. I don’t give credence or press to evil
  2. Evil is vane and lives for press and fear…neither of which I plan to give it
  3. My angel’s name is Daniel…or maybe it’s not his name…it makes no nevermind.
It was just amusing to find out. I felt bad for my friend that she had to make a pilgrimage to Conyers Georgia with a van load of “Catholics” to see the sun dance on video…(which by the way…will do that…if you are trying to video tape the sun)…

There is a point and I do have one…that people who are desparate will believe almost anything…🤷

So the Saints who knew the names of their guardian angels were deceived?
Which saints knew the names of their angels and of them, who asked the angels for the name and who were told by the angels of their own accord?

If any.

Oh I’d tell you, but you’d probably find some loophole or reason to demonstrate why they actually didn’t ask their guardian angel’s name. . .so no, I won’t play your games. You are completely convinced of your position, from what I can tell. No amount of reasoning will sway you.
Good day.

I will admit to being wrong if it could be adequately demonstrated.

How did she find out what your angel’s name was?

For those of us who are interested (and won’t play any mind games), can you tell us which Saints knew their angel’s name. I know there was one saint…but I forget her name. She had a great devotion to the angels.
