When I buy a CD from Amazon, they automatically give me a free download, however, if the CD is a gift, I delete the download.
just curious, why not give them the link of the download also?(never bought on amazon so i dont know)

about the stealing yes it is stealing, but i think its diferent from stealing a wallet, since all you are doing is using without permission something (unless you are selling or uploading them, there you are more close to taking money from them), it is not that you are actually taking money from them. but really, is it worth to get an illegal copy of a cd or something? i mean if its just entertainment you can live without it, now if it were a very important stuff, at an unfair price, it might actually not be theft due to the unfairness.

I do not know if I were to call it stealing but I am quote sure that it falls under the category of “sins that cry the heaven for vengeance” because it is defrauding workers of their just wages (Jas 5:4). I also think that the actual copyright laws are a scam but that is a different story.

If you legally own the CD or legally downloaded the music, and it’s for your own use, that’s fine. It’s when you’re giving it away or selling it, or the CD wasn’t yours, or when the download wasn’t legal, that it becomes theft.

I had this question myself regarding a cassette converter that I’ve been using. I was told that if you legally own the cassette or vinyl album (I’ve been recording them onto cassette to run them through the converter for use on my MP3 player), and it’s going to be used solely by me, then it’s not theft or piracy - it’s a reformatting of the material.

I can’t pass the download on from Amazon.

Sorry, but I respectfully could not agree to adopt the approach of the rest of your post. At the end of the day, people are relying on the sales of the product to pay their wages and the profits to go to underwriting new artists. Big or small, surely that is stealing their wages before it reaches their wallets? We can all steal in so many different ways, we can steal from our employer by pretending to work, steal from the government by choosing to pay cash in hand, steal from our neighbors if we claimed unemployment benefit whilst working, steal from a shop by not drawing attention to the fact that we received too much change (sometimes the shortfall will come out of the cashiers wages).

The people who stole my “card”, directly stole my money, indirectly stole money from thousands of people because the Building Society has to divert profits to stopping criminals instead of giving people better interest rates, stole my peace of mind, and the many hours I had to spend in personally visiting the Building Society to withdraw cash.

There is no shifting me on this one. Your journey of faith is uniquely yours and I respect the fact that your journey has taken you to places where I may not yet have visited, however, equally, I may have been, where you have yet to travel. It makes sense to me, hope it does to you.

God bless.

sorry but i have to disagree, my reasons are that if we really want to change the stuff we have to say the things as they are, since thera are people that if finds a mistake in your reasons, everything goes with it, no matter if the rest is ok.

let me give you why i dont think it’s the same as stealing a wallet, let’s say i like X singer a little bit, so i get an illegal copy of his work from a friends cd, but let’s say I wanted to do things right I would not buy the album nonetheless, since to me it is not worth the money, so I would just go around without hearing it. so where is the direct theft? I was not going to give them any money from the beginning. of course this only applies to the case where I would not buy the stuff.

I dont mean to say that piracy is ok, I myself dont like it, but let’s not say things that are not, it hurts the cause more than it would help.

now about massive piracy like on the internet or selling them, i think the theft becomes more direct, since you are now interfering with their sales.
