It is okay forFirst Holy Communion candidates to surround the altar during the LIturgy of the Eucharist?

In one of the parishes I belonged to our Pastor used to invite all the children onto the altar during the consecration. (once a month at the children’s Mass. I am ususually very conservative but this did not bother me. “Let the children come to me” used to go through my mind.

I do have to admit that it was distracting, Very distracting.

I was upset when they clapped for the CCD teachers, myself included, who had prepared children for receiving the sacraments.

Ugh! I am always disturbed by this practice…it is yet another example of the "it is all about us" mentality that seems to be saturating most aspects of our culture (schools, society at large, and, unfortunately, sometimes even Church).

The Mass is ALWAYS about Jesus Christ, not the cute little kids, community, me, you or anyone/anything else. Grrr… 😦 :mad:
 
at my parish the kids are invited to come up to the altar at EVERY MASS…it drives me crazy
