You certainly can’t deny that there is evil and world, and yet Christ is the savior of the world. But in order to resolve this seemingly paradoxical state, have you considered the greatest evil that ever occurred, namely, the acts done to Jesus in His Passion? Lashings, mockery, and crucifixion of the most innocent human to ever walk the Earth would seem to constitute the worst evil ever seen. In the gospels, we are told about a few who were crying out to Christ on the cross and telling Him to save Himself, if He indeed was the Son of God. Yet Christ persevered through til the bitter end.
So it appears that Christ would have to be the Savior of the World in a way which allows suffering in a certain way, namely, that which can work to prove that love exists. Some of the great saints came from families who lived in destitute poverty. Why didn’t the Lord save them from the evil of lacking in the things which could be deemed indispensable in the eyes of the world? It is because He didn’t leave them lacking in what was truly important-His presence, His love, and forgiveness.
Consider this: In Christ we have forgiveness of our sins. The only way to Heaven is through Christ, which requires loving Him with everything we have. What evil on Earth can change that? God judges the world justly, but also with mercy because of Christ. In that sense we can say that Christ is the Savior of the World. :twocents:
