If any form was going to “follow” another form’s calendar, it would be the new form following the old.

It would be nice if we all could clarify which form of Mass, which calendar, etc. we’re referring to rather than to leave people guessing. 😉

(and yes, I know how that sounds)

It is a great document that still applies today, warning of a danger that has become almost one with our culture. However, one must remember that this was written 100 years ago using terms whose definition and understanding were still somewhat fluid. Also, remember that modernism is a philosophy. It is not the same as “modern” or “modernity.” St. Pius defines well that which he is warning against, a philosophy based first in agnosticism and the elevation of Man in the place of God.

For this reason, the majority of the time it is used here as brother condemns brother, it is used inappropriately and is not the modernism condemned by St. Pius.

Hear hear!

I wish both sides of the divide would look up modernism and inform themselves.

Pascendi addresses the issue of Modernism itself. But it also deals with the use and misuse of religious media, cf sections 50 to 53.

People who rightly emphasize what Pascendi says about Modernism ignore what the same document says about media.
Today there are some media sponsored by the Church itself. There are other media often established by Laity, or religious, independent of the Church, but in union with their local ordinary. Both of these are in agreement with Pascendi, as it understands Catholic Media, though some are better than others.

Then there are others, not in agreement with Pascendi, as pertains to media. This includes 1p5, Rorate, Catholic Family News, CM, Fatima Crusader, Remnant, etc, as well as NCRonline, etc. They do not seek relationship with their ordinary. They may agree with Pascendi on some other things.
