It seems my 70+ year old friends are having memory lapses. Do you know people like that?

It’s kinda like watching Joe Biden.

I do know people like that, and the thing about Joe Biden was legitimately funny, I’m one of those people and I’m in my thirties. I don’t think mine is so much my age as it is trying to process so many different things at one time I have excellent recall with long-term memory, but not so much with short-term memory

My wife and I are both 63 and we have them regularly. Doctors say it’s normal.

Early onset dementia can begin in one’s 50’s, and it happens to everyone to a certain degree. Some may have very mild that never progresses and some progress very quickly to severe dementia.

I just turned 50 and am having significant problems with short-term memory.

There are changes associated with aging that cause some of it. Hormonal changes for instance. And there are conditions that are far more serious that might cause it. And then there are perfectly normal lapses that affect everybody.

And then there are people like Biden who have been making “gaffes” their whole lives. They just are not careful the way others are, a bit impulsive and they come out with somehing almost right. (My Aunt Margaret was bombarded with ads about something that was “almost home cooking” so she asked for some “almost good cooking.”)

Ummmm…myself… 😳

The human structure has a DNA-encoded life span. Just like a car, we wear out. But, while cars may be restored, we rely on the Divine Physician, who will restore us in the fullness of time.

My dad has that, mostly with short-term memory. What’s interesting is I made him a CD of a singing group from before he was born, The Ink Spots. He remembered all of the songs without missing a beat, but still sometimes he might tell the same story 3 or 4 times of what happened to him that morning.

You know they have a pill now for memory loss – but I keep forgetting to take it. 🙂

Well, Wiley came around the corner and said, “hey, that’s not a baseball!” Ha! Old Wiley never learned, nope, not once. He’s been gone now about, what, 10 years, I guess. Moved to Florida. His son still lives around here, his name is Riley, named after his mom, Julie.

Maybe it’s not memory lapse, but the fact that the person’s brain is filled with 70 years worth of stuff, and in order to learn a new thing, something else gets pushed out.

Yes , I’m 70+ years old and I too have memory lapses .

Usually nothing to worry about .

I have a lot more stuff in my mind than a 35 year old , so it’s going to take more time to rummage around inside it to come up with some information .

Imagine the mind to be books .

One mind is the Encyclopedia Britannica and the other is a child’s Ladybird Book .
Which is the easiest to retrieve information from ?

I can hear the same story from my mother-in-law three times in five minutes. Oh, and I’m best son-in-law ever! 🤓

I think a lot of people have memory lapses, not just Joe Biden. And not just older people. The brain is a wonderful, yet still much a mystery. We probably know less about the brain than any other part of the human body.

I’m 50 nd so is my wife, and we both have memory lapses, and slow memories. Recalling names is a challenge at times. It can be scary, but I have assured it is all part of the aging process. Wait, does that mean I’m old, because I thought I was only 4? 🙂

Memory lapses are a human thing, not necessarily an age-related thing. According to a recently read article by a doctor, temporarily not being able to pull up a name or a word is not a problem, nor is forgetting where the car keys are. Forgetting what the car keys are for – now that is a problem.

I’m not going to get into Joe Biden; he is who and what he is.
