This looks like religious discrimination. Next they’ll be saying that religious people are more likely to carry the virus than football fans.

Link?

If it’s true, I’d lay odds it has more to do with Communion that accusations of being “more likely to carry the virus.”

I’ll have to disagree with you there, friend. Catholicism is the majority religion in Italy, and was even at one point the state religion, all the way up to the dictatorship of Benito Mussolini. The Catholic Church in Italy is too big to put a dent in.

So why not share the link so we can see exactly how it was explained?

Maybe the distinction is because things are less likely to be transmitted outdoors where there is fresh air rather than recirculated air? What’s the ruling for indoor sports like basketball vs outdoor like soccer and rugby?

Dunno. Sad, though.

A jest but probably true… Italy would have massive riots if they cancelled football/soccer.

Dear friends and enemies of Stilum Curiae, we cannot fail to record some comments and initiatives after the decision of the dioceses of Lombardy and Veneto not to celebrate masses because of the coronavirus.

Is it the government or the dioceses?

It does mention an ordinance of the Lombardy region. But nothing about the “Italian goverment” prohibiting all Masses.
Yeah there’s a ‘lockdown’ on some of the places with the most cases. I know it affects schools and businesses and non-critical activities, I can’t imagine it’s targeted at religious institutions specifically, but I’m open to hearing otherwise. Perhaps the dioceses is just trying to preemptively assuage the guilt some might feel missing Mass by making it their decision. shrug

Also right now in Italy there are about 400 cases, most of them concentrated in Lombardy and Veneto regions. Just to understand the proportions Lombardy is about the size of Vermont, Veneto is slightly smaller than the size of NewJersey.

The Soccer is also affected do there is no discrimination. When Soccer is affected in Italy, it kind of states this is being taken very seriously

Soccer (as you call it) has been cancelled by self regulation. Mass has been cancelled by law. There’s a difference.

That is what it is, Soccer, you will find that Italian law is more encompassing
in this area then just public Masses.
There is no

going on here. Please do not push such a grave situation as such, it doesnt help

Ok, can you indicate any ban on “soccer” issued by the provincial or national government comparable to the one issued against Mass?

Before we go there, lets look at the documents that the health authorities of each province under lock down and those working with public gatherings are using.
There are entire towns in lockdown, is that discrimination for someone living in Milan or Lombardy or the smaller towns. Was it discrimination that the Venice carnival was closed?
