Italian prayer satchel

My great grandmother was Italian and Catholic. She used to make little sacks filled with something, pray over it, and give it to you to keep. The only ingredient that anyone can remember is salt. No one can remember what else she put in it. Is anyone else familiar with this and can tell me what was in it? And what prayer she said over it?

I looked up blessed salt and found this: newadvent.org/cathen/13403b.htm. Perhaps your great grandmother gave gifts of blessed salt in satchels for one of the purposes outlined in the article? Just a guess here.
