A priest friend of mine (not my PV) and I got into a friendly debate. He said that because we are not in the Octave of Easter, he doesn’t have to say, “The Mass is ended now go in peace, Alleluia, Alleuia”. Our response is, “Thanks be to God, Alleluia, Alleluia.” I told him that we are still in the Easter Season, so we should still say/sing this. He says no. Who is right?

Of course, he is still not satisfied with the answer to his question on the matter of six and seven candles for the altar. 🤷

He is correct.

It is prescribed for the octave, Pentecost - and perhaps Ascension, I don’t recall.

It is optional for the rest of the season.

The octave and Pentecost (the octave of octaves) last time I/our on-the-ball liturgy coordinator checked.
 
I understand both rationales, and I don’t think the ceiling will fall in either way.
 
From the Roman Missal, Easter Sunday:
“The following dismissal is used during the entire octave:
V. Go in the peace of Christ, allelluia, alleluia.
or
The Mass is ended, go in peace, alleluia, alleluia.
or
**Go in peace to love and serve the Lord, alleluia, alleluia.
**R. Thanks be to God, alleluia, alleluia.”
(Roman Missal, Catholic Book Publishing Co., New York, 1985, page 211).

So it should only be used for the Octave, not the whole of Easter.
 
And it remains that way in the 3rd typical edition of the Roman Missal.
 
Thank you to all. Incidentally, at Mass tonight, my pastor exercised the option for the Alleluia. The only thing is that he didn’t sing it because he wasn’t feeling too good.

I defer to y’all since you are wiser. 😃
