Hello! Every year we visit a Catholic gift shop on the grounds of a shrine. We asked one of the priests that run the shrine and he said everything in the gift shop is already blessed. Is this OK? Do I need to get everything I bought from there blessed? Thank you and God bless!

they say the same thing at my gift shop, but I get certain things blessed specifically like the bible I bought and some rosaries

and I don’t get my apologetic books bless though, maybe I should 🙂

It is my understanding, and I hope someone will correct me if it is wrong, that blessed items may be sold IF AND ONLY IF they are sold at the price the same item would sell without a blessing. Relics, on the other hand, may not be sold at all.

We were taught that it is strictly forbidden to sell anything that has been blessed. I’m shocked.

We were told at our market stall where we sell rosaries that it is not allowed to sell blessed items as that is simony.

That surely does relate to extra cost on the items ie profiteering

Last year a US tourist asked me for Holy Water; I had a bottle recently from the Cathedral and she simply made a donation to our work to avoid that.

At one time we had a priest who used to come and bless everything but we would never think of adding to the cost…
