I tried to go to a. “Perpetual” Eucharistic Chapel yesterday but was turned away for security reasons, because I don’t belong to that parish and it was after 6:00 pm. I understand why they couldn’t let me in but it’s just sad that the world has gotten so bad you can’t even worship the Lord if the church folk don’t know who ya are. It’s a darn shame really. Excuse my language but worse things have happened. We’ve got a big issue in the world today and I’m starting to think the atheists are winning. When we can’t go to church somewhere where were not known it’s over…

Our Churches close and are locked at around 6 pm. Security has become a big issue.

They told me you have to have a be scheduled I can’t guarantee a time when I’ll be there so…

Yes! Go to the office and introduce yourself politely to the parish secretary. Tell her where you attend Mass normally, and make some friendly small talk to establish trustworthiness. Offer to show your I.D. if they’re still reluctant.

Yes it has. We’ve formed an “emergency response committee” at my church because there was a school shooting near my church in August…

I know at least one of the local Churches here, you go to the office, they make a copy of your license and give you a pin to open the door to the adoration chapel. They have people scheduled for each hour, but others are allowed in and out if they have registered and have the pin number.

They have security cameras at the door. It is sad that it’s come to this, but it’s the world we live in.

There certainly are restrictions for some things.

Some people could attempt to spend the night there, but not for adoration. Our parish has hired security guards for all night vigils.

I once went to Adoration with security cameras inside the chapel. It was super awkward. I was going through a horrible time spiritually and in my personal life all the while being on video. 😳 Maybe I’ll stick with small-town Adoration from now on.

Hugs. Yes, I believe this is very common these days, due to worries about altar items being stolen or the Holy Sacrament being defiled. I doubt that anyone takes the time to actually watch all the footage unless some vandalism or theft has taken place.

Still, just a thought, better to be caught on camera in Adoration than doing pretty much anything else. Don’t let anything keep you away!

I understand… It’s probably what the church felt they had to do to protect the Lord

That would make me sad, too.

Not “leave Catholicism in a rage” sad.
But sad.

However, remember that Jesus know your heart and your intentions, and it’s just as good as if you had been able to get in 🙂

The perpetual adoration chapel in our city issues electronic pass keys. You cannot get in day or night without using it. It’s a good idea. There is no identification on it so if it’s lost, no one would know what it’s for.

Simply call the parish office on Monday and get the access code. This is not an “atheists are winning”, it is for the safety for adorers and the Blessed Sacrament.

I experienced the exact same thing about 10 years ago. I was in another city with an hour to burn and thought - “what better way to spend it?”

I didn’t think about the security needs of the area or the connotation of a stranger showing up to pray whose real intentions can’t be certainly known. I was put off and offended, because I couldn’t contact anyone at that hour and wouldn’t be through there again in the foreseeable future. How could I plan for all these possibilities?

Today, I rarely get to go to adoration for the same reasons. Even at my local chapel, I can’t commit to a regular schedule or know in advance when I’ll have time, so this is now a devotion of advanced planning. My heart aches for that, but it’s a reality I offer to the Lord in prayer at home.

My church does not let anyone in after 6pm due to security reasons (people try to steal our Lord…)

There is no problem with access in my Parish. Can only say that if one person remains then they need to remain safe and secure (male or female). Contact the Parish Priest and find out their rules and requirements for entry. Most places will have a key pad or key access after hours.

Perhaps see if you can be available one night for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
