temptation is rearing is ugly head this week like I haven’t felt in a while. I usually go to confession about every two weeks. but last Saturday I skipped thinking “well, I haven’t committed any mortals” and preferring to skip rather than stop what I was doing and spend the time going to confession for “no reason…” well… now I’m feeling it big time. I’ve turned to the rosary twice to fend off lust so far but I’m racking up the venials like you wouldn’t believe these days and it’s not fun. I guess I learned my lesson…

Sin sucks.

Be strong and know you are not alone. I get frustrated too, but what has helped me is to visualize,or look at, a crucifix. Then I realize I don’t have a lot of right to complain :o

And then there are the people who do the absolute minimum…
:hmmm:

Without temptation, there is no virtue. To be tempted is not sin. To consent to the temptation, though, could be.

Frequent Confession is good for the soul. Pope John Paul II and Mother Theresa of Calcutta went to Confession weekly. Frequent Confession is like frequent house cleaning. At first, we get rid of all the big, ugly, obvious stuff. Then, we begin to notice the corners and ledges, etc. We get those clean, and we begin noticing other once forgotten problems. Same with Confession. We overcome the normal sins (still tempted, but we resist!), and then begin to notice sins of omission, etc. There are no planes in the spiritual life. At any moment, we are either getting better or we are getting worse. As the late Archbishop Fulton Sheen used to say, "Dead bodies float downstream. It takes lives bodies to swim against the current!"
The Rosary is certainly the “preferred small arms” of Our Lady’s Army! Don’t be afraid to call for reinforcements, though. She is, among other titles, the Queen of Angels. Ask her for a few angels to beat back the temptation(s)!

Go back to confession, as soon as you can, and run through the venials, even if it’s not required. And finish the list off by asking the priest for advice to combat temptation, as well as absolution. He will probably recommend some meditations, some prayers, or some spiritual exercises that you can do to strengthen your spiritual muscles.

The funny (peculiar) thing about frequent confession is that it does sharpen our consciences. Stuff I would have done without blinking an eye while I was away from the sacraments for a time bothers me more. That is certainly a grace! And it is even more of a grace when I can identify the “near occasion of sin,” and sidestep it.

And I do like the analogy of spiritual housecleaning as well. Going to confession frequently helps us keep our souls from looking like one of those hoarder houses you see on TV!

YES!! I love that. Are there certain prayers for that?

This is so true! I love the graces conferred from confession! Praise God for his help.

Try the following prayer:

August Queen of Heaven!
Sovereign Mistress of the angels!
Thou who from the beginning
hast received from God
the power and mission to crush the head of Satan,
we humbly beseech thee
to send thy holy Legions,
that, under thy command
and by thy power,
they may pursue the evil spirits,
encounter them on every side,
resist their bold attacks
and drive them hence into the abyss of eternal woe.

Amen

Confession is very important, but love for eachother is also. I think that in that part of your religion life you stay good.Aslo thinking about love for God I think you also stay good.
Is love easy to forgive eachother?

I know the feeling I haven’t been in like 6 weeks and I’ve already done a lot of bad stuff which I need to go to confession for, just haven’t had the time. I really need to go more often to help sin go away.

I know different things are best for different people, but I find that praying the Divine Mercy chaplet in times of temptation helps immediately. I think the reason for this (personally) is because a decade of the rosary is much longer than a decade of Divine Mercy and the mind can wander in the holy rosary. This is often dangerous when the demons are trying to get you to interact with them to open your mind up to sin. Praying a short(er) prayer intensely is usually much more effective (I find).

I try and get to confession every Saturday or Sunday before Mass if I miss my regular confessor. On the Saturday before Passion Sunday (Extraordinary Form) I decided to sleep-in instead. I hadn’t committed any mortal sins and I thought “well, the general absolution after the Confiteor forgives venial sins”. So on Sunday I went to Mass. All good.

I sinned on Monday. Then later in the week.

The grace we receive in the confessional should never be underestimated. We don’t know the future. That grace we receive on Saturday may save us on Monday.

Yup. This is exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve been beaten with temptation all week. The demons are all over me these days trying to get distort my mind and heart away from God. I gave in today and started looking at pornography and then I realized it was Good Friday and stopped immediately. But I feel like a total scum bag and need to get to Confession ASAP but I might not be able to go tomorrow b/c my in-laws are in town.
