It's getting harder to watch television these days

“Honestly? I don’t care much for that show. But I appreciate the invitation. Do you want to meet up and barbeque afterward?”

Don’t feel pressured to provide a reason. “Meh, I just can’t get into it.”
Exactly. This has always served me well when asked if I watch certain TV shows.

I love Gunsmoke! INSP also has some really good old Western movies, too.

I had this experience with Game of Thrones. I saw some trailers and got super excited about it because I love medieval/fantasy themed things, especially Lord of the Rings. I watched the first season with my husband and told him he’d have to finish it without me. I was really disappointed, but I couldn’t get over how disgusting it was. All my friends talk about it, they get together and watch it, but I just…can’t. I have an easy excuse with a 1 year old at home though. It’s not even that I get offended by the violence/nudity/language in it…it just makes me feel really sick.

FWIW, I didn’t argue that we should spend long hours watching uncivilized behavior. Rather, we will need to discipline ourselves as we confront more of the same not even on television but in reality. And if my interpretation of what Jesus did is right, we will have to be even stronger by showing compassion and even mercy as we pray for ourselves and those engaged in such.

I know some very mature and sophisticated 18 yo that think most TV is crap, too
18 yr old males are the demographic that advertisers want to reach. Therefore more materials is produced that attracts them. When was the last time you saw a TV show or a movie that had real dialogue in it?

I’m not sure why you are asking this question of me as I’m neither an 18 yr old or male?

And I’d need a definition of what you mean by real dialogue?

I had the same reaction. I’ve changed and now I am more sensitive to the vulgarity of some of these shows. I think I got as far as 3/4 of the way through the 1st season. Not worth my time.

I think you misread my post. You asked " What IQ are they reaching for these days?" I was just saying they are reaching for the 18 yr old male demographic. It’s all about the Neilson ratings and advertising.

That’s right. The general age range is 18 to 54, but it can vary a bit.

The Good Place is fantastic
Yes, it is! One of the few bright spots on television. I’ve also enjoyed “The Kominsky Method” and “The Last OG” on Netflix. Both are good shows showing flawed people trying to be better people, a little like “The Good Place”

My sister’s family is ga-ga over “The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel” on Amazon. I have no idea why. The production values are very good, but the show itself is profane, vulgar and depressing to me. To each his own, as they say!

Yes, I did misread your post🤗. Sorry!
If they gear their shows to such a young age AND most kids watch YouTube, not TV, they will die out completely in the next few years! Good riddance.

the Neilson ratings ruled TV because that set the price of an advertising minute. Today we don’t need this since entertainment is accessed in a variety of ways. But I did predict over 10 years ago that TV programs would become more like subscriptions instead of sponsored by advertising AKA Netflix. At least with this standard the demographic will default to the most numerous viewers. to keep membership high.

I don’t watch the new anymore because it is depressing and drags me down.

I saw an accidental clip the other night and I felt as though I had been living in a rock.

😃

Am I making too much of this?
No you’re not. Hollywood and the entertainment industry is teaching everyone what and how to think and act. Monkey see monkey do. As if Elvis and the Beatles didn’t have influence on people; so much more these days with witchcraft, promiscuity, pornography and violence influencing and poisoning the minds of the viewers…
