I feel like an idiot not recognizing things… i am rereading all the posts and am realizing how stupid my origional question was. Of course supporting such a union would be sinful and completely agains the teachings of the Church. Also, as I was contemplating stupidity, I realized that while the forums were down, I was in a homosexuality mini theology class with a brilliant priest who was just sayign that stuff. ugh oh my goodness. I am silly, but completely support your choice not to go! Congratulations on your perserverance and fortutide

:yup: I agree.

But in my defense, partner doesn’t have to mean homosexual. Can we be more clear next time?

well, in most cases, the fiance or the bride or even the girlfriend (in this case since it is a brother) would have been used… not necessarily a “partner” but in your defense, it was not clear!

Robert in SD:
Just send a gift. Two rosaries! 😃
Oh Robert, I like your style! Or perhaps some saintly statuary, or a crucifix, or even a family Bible (they can dicker over who gets to be listed as the bride in the registry of sacraments)?😉

Dear Sven: As I have been shunned by my family of birth (not the whole extended family) for choosing to marry a man (as I am female) within the Church, a good man, a nice man, a man who legally adopted my children, after having participated in the nullity process and receiving decree of same (and no, anullments are not as easy as people claim)…

…I’d still have to blow off this so-called wedding.

I will tell you that it will give you a wide range of emotions as the years go by IF they don’t respond to you after you explain (calmly) just WHY you can’t break God’s law, and that while you love Brother, you can’t condone Brother’s actions as God does not condone Brother’s actions. I can also tell you God is good, and He does NOT desert his children when they need His help. You can’t outgive Him, and He recognizes obedience and generosity in kind and then some.

As for Mom, you said she’s 80? She either just can’t stand to think she’s going to lose one of her babies if she doesn’t cooperate, she’s being extremely charitable, or she doesn’t give a rip what others think at her age.

Email me privately if you want. While I haven’t gone through exactly your situation, I have been shunned by my family. It’s not easy.

Hopefully, there won’t be a next time. Partner did mean Homosexual. I appreciate all the comments and support for my decision. God bless!

Sven,

I have refused to attend several weddings in my family in recent years b/c they were divorced without annulments. It is very embarresing at the time, and afterward. People staring at you, and gossiping about you being “holier than thou” and “judgemental”. One of my aunts who is close to me in age, and was a friend as well, has literally not even resopnded to my “hi” at family gatherings in 3 years. It does hurt, but I will tell you 2 things, 1- It will get easier to do this, people will not expect you to say yes to this kind of invitation after this. 2- In the long run, YOU WILL BE GRATEFUL THAT YOU HAD THE CONVICTIONS TO STAND UP FOR THE TRUTH!!! Even if yours is the only voice, you can stand before almighty God in this matter, and know that you spoke the truth to not only your brother, but your whole family. If not by your words, then by your actions. If you do not stand upi for this truth, who will? And if your brother ever comes to his senses, he will thank YOU for not afferming him in his sin, even if it is the popular and PC thing to do. Don’t gove in, and don’t feel bad, or guilty about it. It is the right thing to do, even if it is not the easy thing to do. Remember the scripture passage “Anyone who loves his father and mother more than me is not worthy of me”

God bless
