Robert in SD:
Just send a gift. Two rosaries!
Oh Robert, I like your style! Or perhaps some saintly statuary, or a crucifix, or even a family Bible (they can dicker over who gets to be listed as the bride in the registry of sacraments)?
Dear Sven: As I have been shunned by my family of birth (not the whole extended family) for choosing to marry a man (as I am female) within the Church, a good man, a nice man, a man who legally adopted my children, after having participated in the nullity process and receiving decree of same (and no, anullments are not as easy as people claim)…
…I’d still have to blow off this so-called wedding.
I will tell you that it will give you a wide range of emotions as the years go by
IF they don’t respond to you after you explain (calmly) just WHY you can’t break God’s law, and that while you love Brother, you can’t condone Brother’s actions as God does not condone Brother’s actions. I can also tell you God is good, and He does NOT desert his children when they need His help. You can’t outgive Him, and He recognizes obedience and generosity in kind and then some.
As for Mom, you said she’s 80? She either just can’t stand to think she’s going to lose one of her babies if she doesn’t cooperate, she’s being extremely charitable, or she doesn’t give a rip what others think at her age.
Email me privately if you want. While I haven’t gone through exactly your situation, I have been shunned by my family. It’s not easy.
