It's OK to believe in Aliens

Maybe that’s because the Church isn’t in the business of discussing the possibility of alien life and its theological ramifications. It’s sort of a non-issue, because (a) we don’t know; and (b) it isn’t part of Revelation. Yet, this does not disqualify believing in alien life (especially intelligent/rational alien life) from being sinful. Lots of sinful acts are not specifically mentioned by the Church in its teaching; perhaps believing this, like those kinds of sins, is sinful because it is ultimately an extension of some fundamental form of sin. Maybe theologians just haven’t gotten around to showing us how and why it is sinful.

Just some food for thought. I’m not making any declarations here on the issue, in either direction.
Like…smoking?😉 😛

You make good points. I am interested in if the Pope says something about this or not…in the near future.

I suspect that Benedict, if he does speak on this, will take a “moderate,” non-controversial position. As in, “We do not possess knowledge about alien life one way or the other, but the important thing for us to do is follow Christ,” etc. It’s how I see him handling it.

How do we know if there aren’t thousands or millions of other earths out there just like ours? Believing or pondering the greatness of God and his works certainly isn’t sinful.

I agree.

Wasn’t there an old Star Trek episode where Kirk and crew were tracking what they thought was the Sun visiting each planet and it was actually “The Son” as in Christ? Thought of that when I read WG’s post.
Ha Ha, I remember that one. It was a world that was unfortunately interfered with by one of the star fleets other Captains. They had given these primitive people guns yet their styles and games were that of 2000 years ago. 😃

I am one Catholic who tends to lean more to the belief that there is alien life out there who are visiting our little blue sphere. There are just too many stories by very credible witnesses who know there were cover ups and not by second hand information to ignore. I’ve seen 5 or so UFOs all at once myself as a young boy with my brother.

Christ died for mankind. Christ is not the Heavenly Angel’s savior who are also a creation of God so it’s possible, that if there is life out there, He wouldn’t necessarily have to be their Saviour as well but their God only.

Hey, there was even a visit by a UFO during Pope John Paul II’s funeral a few years back. Don’t forget, I’m not saying that this is a definite alien flying saucer, but an unidentified flying object, which is precisely what it was. 😉

Here is the snap taken from the camera. I’m not sure though if it was a t.v. camera or some sort of camera they have set up in the Vatican during that time.

Here is a youtube video that I have been keeping my eye on to see the outcome of the investigation. If it does turn out to be untampered with, this could be one of the best shots of an actual unknown craft I have ever seen.

Anyways, time to go to bed with aliens on my brain…yet again.

The Vatican’s official newspaper has endorsed the possibility that the universe could contain intelligent life beyond Earth, while insisting that aliens would be “our brothers” and “children of God” as much as human beings are.
Either the Vatican approves the article or it does not. Does the Vatican paper have Imprimatuer? sp?or whatever it is called or the “Nil Obstat” sp?

It would seem the Vatican would have the final say whether an article can be printed or not printed. Am I wrong?

But don’t Catholics generally presume that something is a legitimate subject for speculation until the Church clearly teaches otherwise?
